As you can tell by my post, i tend to be quite blunt in my delivery, but im not ashamed.
I dont tread around to make a point, but what i want to know is, do you think been blunt is something Jesus was as well? i mean, if you look at our scriptures, he was right to the point as well, what do you think?

What Jesus did and did not do does not really have much bearing on my behavior. I am called to love…to show mercy…to show meekness…to cultivate the fruit of the Spirit. How Jesus addressed certain issues does not give me license to run “rough shod” over anyone.

“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

High standards…

"What Jesus did and did not do does not really have much bearing on my behavior."???

If what Jesus does “did and did not do does not really have much bearing on my behavior”, then you are sadly discounting the value of your own existence, **since Jesus created you and loves you.
**
i would think that a “publisher” would take more care in his wording?

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

publisher is a quacker after all…😉 dont get me started on them

While the above poster’s comments seemed very little like a peacemaker, he was very correct in his indignation that anyone trying to be saint would say that what Jesus did has no bearing on what they do.

We are called to be imitators of Christ. When we recieve the Body of Christ into our bodies, we are to become like Christ through His grace. He showed us the perfect way to live.

Not all people are to emulate everything Jesus did: only some are called to celebacy, only some are gifted with healing, only some are given the power to forgive sins.

Nevertheless, Jesus should be our ultimate model. We look up to the saints and try to emulate them because they show us the perfect way of emulating Christ:thumbsup:.

Edit- two posters above me:D

(dolphinlove) That’s classy. Don’t you think that the moral principle behind the forum rule on respect for the Catholic faith ought to apply to other religions, as well?

I don’t think that Publisher is rejecting the authority of Jesus. Belief in his teachings is a part of what it means to be a Christian. I read Publisher’s post as a differentiation between following the words of Jesus, which are prescribed for us specifically by him, and teaching as if we are Jesus, which would be rather presumptuous!

Actually, priests are called to act in persona christi in many instances where they are actually acting in the person of Christ. It’s one of the great and beautiful mysteries of the priesthood. We do not all speak with the authority of Christ - unless we have the authority of Christ. He gave His apostles incredible authority and told them, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”

And you say you are “uncertain”.🙂 You sound very certain about truth.🙂

Jesus was blunt on plenty of occasions - but remember firstly that He gave the soft answer that turneth away wrath on just as many occasions. Sometimes no answer at all, even when He would have been plenty justified in speaking out.

And remember secondly that He had the deepest possible (not to mention infallible!) understanding of the hearts and minds of those whom He was addressing when He did so. Possibly knew that He could crack through some of their thick skulls with a few choice words. Be that as it may, His level of knowledge is something we don’t have.

For both those reasons it is better to err on the side of caution and charity as the Catechism bids us do.

I was in the bar of a local restaurant, someone said Jesus Christ loudly in frustration, and I sang out “Superstar”. It took the edge off the situation, and I haven’t heard anyone use profanity there since…

Does Jesus need someone to stand up for him? Don’t you believe he is God?

Stand together with Him might be a better way of putting it. Declare your allegiance to Him.

Your father wouldn’t be very impressed if you heard someone make a nasty comment about him and did and said nothing about it, surely. Nor your best friend if he or she were in a fight and you ran away.

Maybe your father or your friend can defend themselves, but a true child, a true friend, doesn’t see someone they care about being attacked and not join in the fight on their side.

I fail to see it a good thing to encourage children to jump into fights to “protect” the “honor” of their parent/friend. We are living in a day and age where that should be looked at as child abuse to encourage.

…because that was obviously the point of what Lily just said.:rolleyes::yawn:

Standing up for Jesus (pbuh) may be good… but prostrating to the Lord like he and his disciples did would surely be even better.

Matthew 17:6 "And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid."

Matthew 26:39 "And he (Jesus) went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt."

I believe Lilly is advocating a child standing up for a parent/friend.
I am taking the opposite position.
Please clarify what your objection is without my having to guess what it is.

Did I mention physical fighting or anything like child abuse? No. I just mentioned doing something rather than doing nothing when a loved one is attacked. There’s a big difference.

Calling security or the police, for example, is neither child abuse nor is it encouraging fighting.

Asking for an apology when someone says something slanderous or malicious about your father isn’t fighting, nor is is child abuse.

In both cases it is doing something - in both cases it is defending your loved one, in the sense of seeing that their wellbeing and good name are protected. It is defending them in a sensible way.

Are you seriously suggesting that one shouldn’t call the police when one’s friend is being beaten up? That you should just run away and do nothing and let them get beat?

Or not ask for an apology when someone makes a horrible comment about one’s father? Should just stand there and take it in silence? Which is surely giving everyone the impression that you agree with what is being said. Thus being an accomplice to the slander by your silence? I sincerely hope not.

Okay, so when you stand up for Jesus you are metaphorically calling 911 or asking for an apology?

Not giving an apology? I’m so confused about what the real definition of apologetics is now.

I’m reading this post of yours and wondering if you really even take your words seriously or not…

Why would you think I’m not serious?
