Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As the Church, by the power of the Holy Spirit continues the mission of Jesus, we see many saints in the past who have done great service and given great glory to God; each in a unique way, according to God’s will and design. Yet, of all the stars, none shines as brightly as the Mother or God, our Mother Mary. It is no wonder to me that Pope St. John Paul II and Pope Emeritus (Benedict XVI) have called her “Star of the New Evangelization”. She perfectly reflects the Son of God as stars in the heavens reflect the light of “brother sun” created by God. She guides us to Jesus, our Way, our Truth and our Life. Our present Pope Francis, as well, gives Mary great honor and speaks of her often.
It is sweet to read the journey of the Wise Men who followed a star provided by God and when they found the place where He was, they went in and saw Him “with Mary His Mother” (cf Matthew 2:11). If we are “wise” in seeking to know God then we need to look up, it seems to me, and follow the Star of the New Evangelization for our own sake as well as the sake of all. Mary has been given to us by Jesus as Mother. Let us take her into our lives as the beloved disciple John wrote in his Gospel (cf John 19:27). She is both Mother and Model. The Catechism of the Catholic Church encourages us to see in Mary all we are called to be:
