I thought that show had such great potential, but did not like the way eventually most of the men were shoved aside.
interesting observation. i’ve loved the star trek universe since i was a kid but always remained cold to voyager, not sure why. i suppose their “mission” always seemed too vaguely defined to be compelling to me.

the doctor did get a lot of screen time (just as data did in star trek next generation). that would fit into your “amazon” theory insofar as being a hologram, he couldn’t be sexually threatening, and was in fact something of a court eunuch.

I don’t know if I would necessarily go that far. The doctor, especially once you get into the later seasons, clearly develops romantic feelings for different characters at different times. In one episode, it becomes very clear that he particularly fancies 7 of 9 in much more than a “just friends” way.

Just my thoughts though. Yes the show could definately have been improved in many ways, but something about it caused me to enjoy it enough to buy the complete series on DVD (it’s taken almost three years of course…). Probably not the best way to spend my money…but whatever.
