Indicates a couple of well-known fan favorite characters will be joining Jean-Luc’s latest adventure.

I’ll take the dissenting position. Might be worth checking out.

I didn’t like Discovery. I hoped to like Picard but I don’t think I will.

Maybe it’s modern television, but for Star Trek I don’t want a “THE GALAXY IS DOOMED” or “I THINK THIS PERSON IS VITAL TO THE PRESERVATION OF THE GALAXY” plots. At least not all the time and right off the bat. It’s just dumb. I want to boldly go and explore new planets and meet civilizations and encounter complicated moral quandaries with a fun ensemble cast. Not save the galaxy.

Deep Space 9 handled the Dominion War so well with its lead up to the start of the war over four or five seasons without losing sight of what makes Trek, Trek. Even with Sisko and the Bajoran prophet thing early on, it didn’t take away from everything else.

And I did not grow up watching Trek. This isn’t nostalgia goggles. I only got into it six years ago.

I think Seven of Nine was a great character from the get go, which is why it was such a shame they had her wear that suit through her whole arc. Note I said she’s a great character, though I think Voyager basically became the Seven of Nine show, which was to its detriment.

Same thing with Deanna in TNG, though it was nice that they put her back in uniform in later seasons.

Perhaps they should have had the Picard walks his dog scene with two aliens looking on.

Excitement? No.

I don’t disagree, but I’m okay with the camp and such. It and Enterprise still felt like Star Trek to me, at least. Discovery didn’t.

Anyway, I don’t want to spend more time than that downing on Discovery and new Trek. Here’s hoping Picard is good.

I just can’t anymore with revisiting old characters. We need new stories with new characters told properly. I saw a pilot for an animated web Star Trek set in the future. The script was made available after it peetered out. I thought it was wonderful. It had fresh characters and interesting ideas that were very Trek.

If they have to have Picard I hope they do the character justice - the TNG movies didn’t. If they have to have Seven of Mine, I hope they continue the good progress. I agree - Seven could’ve been interesting if they didn’t use her as cheesecake Superman.

Maybe I’m just not ready to move into the bingeable “prestige TV” era we’re in right now. To me, Star Trek should be episodic. It allows the show to explore ideas and concepts easier. Nowadays it’s all drama hooks and action garbage. Read: Discovery

That’s because DS9 on the whole is the most perfect Star Trek of them all.

Star Trek: Picard: The Final Retirement

I can see it now, after multiple episodes and tons of strange plot points… It was all a demented delusion.

THE END

It might be good. But it could be bad.

The important thing is we’ll know 🙂

Star Trek fans are famous for complaining then eventually loving it.

It’s just a trailer that’s all… it’s not a finished product yet
