Some great shots in this new trailer. I like that it doesn’t give away too much. We know that Palpatine is “returning” somehow, but the trailer doesn’t tell us how.

And, oh my goodness, that line from C3PO. Is he going to - gulp - die? 😮

Definitely looked like a tear jerker scene!
So far, so good…it almost looks like Kyle and Rey are working together in one shot yet shown battling in another. The title makes me think that Rey is a Skywalker…Luke’s daughter? But that means he abandoned her!

Mostly I’m hoping for a good story, great action and…ANSWERS!

You’ll get none.
Instead you will be given a token motion toward a story and a lineup of hooks to get you into the theater for another movie.

The Star Wars franchise has long abandoned story in favor of commercial.

I think they can do both and I’m hoping for it. They can certainly have hooks for further stories and still answer past ones. Oh, ye of little faith!

I’m not hyped.

Though honestly I’m bitter at Disney for the way they’ve handled this trilogy.

There was no overarching plans for the trilogy as a whole.

The directors did not communicate their story plans between 7 and 8.

TLJ was approved as a first draft and it shows.

My criticisms stem from 7 being average and 8 retroactively making it worse due to having a poorly constructed narrative and plot, even if some beats it tried to hit are interesting ideas.

Finn has beaten his nemesis in both of his encounters.

Rey has beaten her nemesis in both of their encounters.

The villains at the end of TLJ were incompetent so they had to retcon a competent villain in.

But I’m not going to rain on everyone’s parade, which I could do… ENDLESSLY 😉

I just liked the franchise and thought I’d always go to it as some type of big event and brand loyalty, lol, but Disney’s poisoned the well for me.

Even the prequels, with stiff dialogue and bad execution felt like they had a story to tell. This… I don’t know.

I’m looking forward to the movie, but found the trailer disappointing. Not a single “Oh wow!” moment. If a person was still on the fence about seeing this movie, I doubt this trailer would have sold them on it.

I’ve heard this trailer wasn’t made for enthusiasts or bitter dorks like me invested in the franchise. It’s one last attempt at reminding the “casuals” that this big event movie that’s part of the main franchise is releasing soon and that it is THE movie to see this winter if they have to pick one. Not everyone is like me or others who follow Star Wars in any way.

Your preemptive complaints won’t change the fact that this movie is guaranteed to bring in well over a billion dollars without breaking a sweat. If it sells, it’s going to be made.

That could be. I just happen to here a lot of people claiming they have zero interest in this movie because of The Last Jedi. I’m sure most of them are just talking and will see the movie anyway, but I’m sure there will be some that won’t out of “protest”. This trailer definitely didn’t include anything to push them.

I do not expect to see this in theaters.

I have no enthusiasm for the story. I cannot remember the plot of The Last Jedi. I’m not sure I can remember the plot of The Force Awakens? I have no enthusiasm to compel me to see this.
IMO, Star Wars died after the Return of the Jedi.
More precisely: Star Wars died halfway through Return of the Jedi, right after
the destruction of Jabba the Hutt
, right before any
appearance of Ewoks
.

[Spoilers, after all 😃]

After TLJ I have zero real motivation to see this. If it comes out and people I trust say it’s good then I might go see it in theaters. Otherwise I might rent it…

TLJ was just…awful… so awful… take out the Kantobite bit, and around 3/4’s of the “chase” sequence, and it would have been decent. I enjoyed Luke and Rey’s interactions, even if I hated what they did to Luke. The Rey - Kylo segments were the best part of the movie, so if this has more of that then it might be worth a watch…

So much negativity about a story.
I like the story. I suppose we all would write a different story or think our story would be better. But it isn’t. Let’s just sit back, relax, and listen to someone tell us a tale!
Personally I hope there is a darkness and a failure theme at the end, sprinkled with a tad of Disney hope. That’s just my own personality. How incredible and legendary if it ended with the bad being victorious?!

Unfortunately our culture has taken a turn in redefining evil as a point of view and misunderstood. I hope it doesn’t go that route. Either way I’m both sad and excited for this story to conclude. Which in my book, means it is a story worth seeing.
