I’m not sure I can remember the plot of The Force Awakens

Just think of the plot of A New Hope, tweak it a bit, and you’re not too far off.

I cannot remember the plot of The Last Jedi

Just think of the plot of the Empire Strikes Back and maybe a bit of Return of the Jedi, tweak it a lot more than the Force Awakens, and again, not too far off.

Unfortunately you are correct. They do a great job making commercials lol but In the end they are not like the originals. Even the prequels were much better done in my opinion.
Oh well I will still watch because I have always loved pretty much anything Star Wars lol

I think this is a classic case of looking on the past with rose tinted glasses. The prequels had, I think, great stories… but as films the execution was terrible. Terrible dialogue, wooden acting…

IMO, Star Wars died after the Return of the Jedi.

I have no enthusiasm for the story.

Oh for the love of Pete (see what I did there? Yes - a Calvinist heretic snuck in a pro-Catholic reference - you can all thank me immediately before you tar, feather and burn me at the stake ) You guys need to look at this with fresh eyes. I’m as nerdy as the rest of you about preserving the canon, etc. etc. But give it a chance!!

People complained just as much when the prequels came out.

A point could be made of comparisons made to the originals, but they have the benefit of having been first to do much. So there is a certain amount of latitude there.

And it looks like the new one is going to have scenes on a forest planet/moon (like ROTJ), a throwdown with the Emperor (like ROTJ), and involve the second Death Star (ROTJ again). They are changing it up a little bit though, there’s a planet with icebergs, which ROTJ didn’t have.

Like I said, they are tweaking these a bit, so this may be Return of the Jedi all over again.

It’s not about “preserving the canon” – It’s about telling a compelling story. To repeat: I don’t remember the last two movies – Why should I want to see this one!?
