Friends,

Would it be considered a violation of the 6th or 9th commandments to have looked at or to have done a double-take at the Starbucks logo. It is apparently a nude mermaid in a seductive pose. Does this constitute pornography? Does this mean I must avert my eyes every time I pass a Starbucks walking down the street lest I fall into Hell?

You been using a time machine lately? There aren’t any 1971 logos around on the street anymore, for pretty much the exact reasons you’re asking about.

Anyways, given how crude and unrealistic the drawing is, it doesn’t arouse me. And given that the circle has been intentionally made smaller so as to hide the naughty bits, it lacks what little eroticism it started out with.

For most people, the modern one is just a logo, like all those things that decorate nearly every object in the western world. If for some reason it compels or tempts you to sin, I suggest averting your eyes, for the sake of your peace and well-being.

What would be a very bad idea would be to keep a vintage 1971 Starbucks cup on your desk at work so that you can lust after the picture at will, assuming you find it to be that sort of picture.

There is nothing sinful about the Human body in itself, and I would think seeing something unusual would cause someone to take a second look. I doubt your truly lusting over this image and with that in mind it wouldn’t be a sin if you saw it and happened to look again. Of course that’s my take and I’m willing to hear anyone else out if I’m wrong.

With what’s beamed into our living rooms, this is the least of our worries 🙂

btw I LOVE starbucks coffee

Traditionally mermaids, mythological aquatic creatures would frolick in the oceans and seas bare breasted .Personally ,I feel that Starbucks, not having an image of a merman on their logo is a mortal sin.

Oh my… You’d better never go and see the artwork at the vatican!

No, but I think that they are violating the 7th commandment everytime they charge someone five bucks for a cup of coffee!
