That is a great quote too!

“You are not an accident. Your parents may not have planned you, but God did. He wanted you alive and created you for a purpose. Focusing on yourself will never reveal your real purpose. You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense. Only in God do we discover our origin, our identity, our meaning, our purpose, our significance and our destiny.”

This is great, but, the company is so hypocritical with the quote by Armistead Maupin along with the disclaimer, along with their overt presence at San Diego’s gay pride weekend!!!

I don’t know if you could call it hypocritical, because of the disclaimer. Basically, you can call them spineless for not really supporting anything by supporting everything. (I hope that’s not too circular for you.)

It is a good quote, and I am glad that their marketing branch finally recognized the large block of American culture that is Christian. It’s about time!

I guess one more angle to look at it from would be this one:
“Why would you really want to print something on a coffeecup other than your own logo? Who reads that anyhow?”

***I read everything printed anywhere, even the copyright date on the floor tile of someone’s bathroom, so I guess I would have been one of the suckers to read the cups!

Personally, I don’t drink coffee and have never bought anything from STarbucks. My DH sent that to me because the other day when he mentioned getting a cup of coffee, I told him about the thread on here. so, when he was surfing he found this.

It IS a great quote to use. I still wouldn’t support Starbucks, but I guess we may be able to take solace in the fact that they are willing to open up “The Way I See It” stuff.

Personally, I agree about not buying anything at Starbucks. I never go there, just because it’s too expensive. The only time I could see myself there is if it were at a library or museum and my husband and I wanted to share a cup of coffee. I do enjoy coffee and tea, but I am trying to cut back on my caffeine intake. Besides, Starbucks coffee tastes burnt to me. (Why don’t they have a ‘yuck’ smiley here? I would definitely put it to good use here!)

What will happen when they have the God quote and the gay quote on the same cup?

without a doubt, the cup will explode and set off a chain reaction that will bring about the end of the world.

😉

Storm in a tea/coffeecup anyone?

Hey Katie, I’ll be at that Starbucks across the street from Planned Parenthood after I get my mammogram. Look for me. 😛 as I will be the one sharing God’s RAINBOW, over a tall latte. I won’t be reading my cup, although I really do like that God Quote…

I mentioned this quote just a few minutes ago on the popular media sub-thread. I wondered if anyone has read Rick Warren’s book “the purpose driven life” and if it was worth a read.
I think the quote is beautiful

I have it but haven’t read it. I usually get copies of every popular “Christian” book out from my Protestant mother-in-law, who is still hoping I will come to my senses and realize I made a mistake to convert to Catholicism!

My general opinion is that most of the really hyped Christian books that all the Protestant churches end up doing as Bible studies and what-not, while they may have some good points, are just over-hyped and not what we as Catholics need to be delving into. In other words, kind of a waste of time. I would rather use the small amount of time that I have to read, to read something Catholic and keep my mind in the right place. There are so many great classics to explore–maybe after reading all of those, I’ll read some Max Lucado or Rick Warren. 😛

But I think the book does have an overall good message (and pro-life)… since the basis of his book is that we were created for a purpose.

Uh Kathy there are no donuts at Starbucks.Gi-normous rice crispy treats, cookies and danishes; but I have yet to see a donut. 🙂

Well now I can stop having Catholic guilt over my Carmel Machiatto (non-fat decaf).

Ok then. Well…how about one of those wonderful sugar cookies? Or perhaps one of the chocolate chocolate chunk?? My treat Rayne!

They do. As do a whole lot of other companies. Microsoft and Verizon are two that come to mind. So if you are using the computer or telephone, you are inadvertently supporting PP.
