I’m thinking of starting a personal development blog from a Catholic perspective. The idea would be to cover topics such as goal setting, productivity, communication, and professional development from the perspective of improving oneself to serve others and serve God.

Do you know if there’s any other blogs/sites related to this (I haven’t found any) and also would this be something you’d be interested in reading? (I’m not going to spam you) Just doing some research before devoting more time and energy to this project.

My idea comes from the fact that I’m always interested in this and as a business owner, have applied some of these skills and concepts to business and personal life effectively.

In any case, let me know what you think.

God bless,
Bryan

That sounds a bit like a “life coaching” kind of thing.

I can think of similar sties, but coming at it from different angles. Phil Lenahan has his Verital Financial Ministires which focuses on the financial side of things.

Gregory Popcak has his Pastoral Solutions Institute and his blog Faith on the Couch which focuses on the marriage piece and the mental health piece, respectively.

The Art of Manliness blog covers some of these types of things, too, albeit from a predominantly male perspective. (Also, I don’t know if the author is Catholic or not, but they have lots of insightful articles).

Those sites all kind of skirt around the same type of themes, but still leave room for you to come in and offer your own unique contribution. 🙂

I think it sounds like a great idea. If you do it well, I would stop by. 🙂

Thanks for your response.

I’m familiar by Phil Lenihan’s work as well as the Art of Manliness (both of which I enjoy as well). I guess although there might be some overlap depending on the specific topic, my idea would be to focus on the personal productivity more than anything else. I’m a financial planner in my “day job” so I purposefully wouldn’t cover anything related to finances in this blog (as I perhaps might do in a different topic).

The reason I came upon this idea was that in my own research and reading of websites, books, and magazines about business and personal development, I’ve been seeing the creeping in of New Age ideas as well as what I would consider manipulative (in a negative way) or selfish motives that contradict the Catholic faith. So I wanted to write both from my own research and experience in business and life things that although not entirely original (such as goal setting), something that faithful Catholics can trust to be both of value and in line with the teachings of the Church.

In any case, I think I might just have to jump in and start writing some articles and content and see where it goes. My goals are to help other people and hopefully to grow myself as well.

God bless,
Bryan

Thanks. :o I don’t keep it updated as much as I would like to.

I think that starting to write some articles is a good place to start. That’s probably going to do more than anything to help you more fully know the direction you want things to go in. Plus, it will be helpful to have a good base of articles to put out there as you get started.
