Starting a Latin Mass?

If I am interested in starting a Latin mass for the 3 parishes in my area, how would I go about doing it? Our priest is openly untraditional and I highly doubt that he would go for it. My parish is fairly liberal, as well as the town I live in. I would just like to go to a reverent mass for once and not hear drums or guitars… There are several ppl interested, it’s mostly just the clergy I’m worried about.

Knowing that we are to keep prayer before all things, pray a Novena to the Blessed Virgin for a suitable priest remembering that you are not doing this for your own selfish desires but what you think is truly needed. The most unlikely things are known to happen when you are in Her favour.

Unless one of the people interested is a priest that is well versed in the Latin mass and willing to celebrate, you’re a far way from your goal.

There are not that many priests that are fluent in Latin nowadays, much less well aware of all of the rubrics involved in the traditional Latin mass.

Maybe you can petition your diocesan office in regards to the matter. They know the personnel and facilities available, and could be able to help you.

You first of all require a “stable group” of parishioners to want the Latin Mass. This is where problems can start because the Church has not defined what is meant by a stable group either in terms of percentage of parishioners or actual numbers so an unwilling priest could argue you do not have a stable group.

Even if you have a willing priest such a priest may not know Latin. Some people suggested the priests who do not know Latin simply have to memorise the prayers and be able to read them but the Pope in the recent past clarified that is not sufficient and that any priest saying the Latin Mass has to have some fluency in the language and be able to understand it, not just memomise/be able to read the prayers.
I think finding a priest with some fluency in Latin is the bigger problem than an unwilling priest because an unwilling priest can be overruled by the Bishop.

I think yours is the best advice. I recently ran into a old friend who became a Servite priest. He says he remembers enough to say the Traditional Latin Mass but no one has asked him. I imagine there are some out there who are in the same situation. The diocese perhaps has a list of such priests or can take a survey of same. But the important thing is to ask or say you might be interested. Otherwise the diocese will assume no one is interested.
