=One in Christ;6361377]Can someone really start a new church apart from Jesus Christ?
That was my reasoning when I asked my sister: by whose authority did you pastor start his church, in the 1980’s? Was it by Jesus’ authority? If so, then Jesus must have founded 2 churches, or should I say, hundreds and hundreds of churches at different times in the past.
I guess someone can rent a building, put an add in the paper, and teach and preach… but are they really starting a new church? Granted… many non-Catholics abuse sola scriptura with no consideration of historic church tradition which is sinful and wrong. But, I don’t believe that is consistent with sola scriptura. Didn’t the Protestant Reformers submit to church tradition as a secondary source of authority, making them very Catholic too in much of their core beliefs?
The men that spearheaded the protestant reformation, were much closer, in their beliefs, to the CC then any modern day PC; that is for certain. I mean, look at Martin Luther. He believed in the true presence, the perpetual virginity of Mary, her Immaculate Conception.

John 6 was for me also one of things that drew me to the CC.
Being a former JW, reaching out for the CC was a great stretch for me in many respects. At least most Protestants share some common ground with the CC (Holy Trinity, Heaven for all, etc.). But there is almost NOTHING in common between the WTS and the CC, so I had a few more hurdles to leap. In all honesty, I couldn’t reach any other conclusion that the CC was the Church that Christ founded.
I don’t mind at all.👍 You said: I couldn’t reach any other conclusion that the CC was the Church that Christ founded.

What about the EOC; how did that church factor in on your journey home to the church founded by God, in the 1st century? 🙂

That troublesome chapter, Matthew 16, kept me from seriously considering the EOC.🙂
