Hello, I am starting my Confirmation training (if you could call it that) very soon, and I am somewhat worried. My church has a group of teens that meet and most of them are well acquainted, as they have gone to school together, go to Mass together, and do many things outside of church together. Since I am going to be a freshman in the fall, I was not in this group before and I was not very active with the middle school group either. I know Confirmation is a very important step in your faith and I am excited, but I am worried that the kids won’t accept me, I guess. I’m new to these forums, so I’m not sure if this should go under Prayer Intentions, but does anyone have any words of wisdom to help me get through this with confidence? The program takes 2 years, and I know the teen group have a lot of fun together when they meet, go on retreats, and go on mission trips. I guess I’m just a little wary about being an outcast and not being accepted into the group. The last thing I want is to dread going to their meetings and doing service projects with these kids, along with most of the school work, and other extracurricular activities I will be doing. Also, most of these kids don’t go to my school, and a lot of them go to school together, so again, I would be an outcast by which school I go to. Any advice? Thank you so much.

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance & direction.

Hey! Ill be freshman in the fall and start the process as well! Here is my advice: seek out some of them, get to know your group, and hang out with them this summer, so that next year your ready to be with them throughout the training. And Ill be praying for you too! Pray for me as well! God Bless.

Hello! I’m about to be confirmed so pretty much just finished what you’re going through.

The only way to make yourself an outcast is to act like one. Go in there confidently, find a little group of people, introduce yourself and your situation (but don’t come across as needy), and just act normally. If those people don’t click with you, then go find someone else. The worst thing you can do is to close up or stop going. Then, there’s no way to make a friend!

Some of the most involved members in our Life Teen don’t have school system in common with anybody else.

Go get 'em!👍

I’ll pray for you that your anxiety doesn’t get the better of you. The Holy Spirit can help.

One important thing to hold tight to is to be yourself. Confirmation exists for the serious purpose of offering yourself as a man, to God, in place of your parents having done it at Baptism. The social interaction is great–but it is not the purpose. If others in the class act disrespectfully, dress less than respectively, treat you like an outsider (very unchristian-like), or in general don’t take the process seriously, they’ll have to explain themselves to God. Don’t act like them so as to fit in. I hope you get to enjoy like-minded classmates, but if not, keep your eye on God and you can’t go wrong. The fact that you are on this forum says something great about your character.

God bless.

first of all, congratulations, i will pray for you

secondly, just be yourself, be friendsly and nice and you will make friends. there will always be a few who will like you for who you are. and if you feel like you have to change yourself or do things you’re not comfortable with just to be someone’s friend, it’s not worth it

i don’t agree with the poster that said that you make yourself an outcast by acting like one. in my experience, this is not true. is it my fault that people think i’m a freak because of mmy disability? i was the one who was made an outcast, then i became scared of people. but allong the way, you will always find a few who will love you for who you are.
