Am I the only one that finds this line of thought a little nutty? It was a sci-fi flick, nothing more. If you want truth, look to scripture. Look to the Catechism. Unless Lucas enters the Church hierarchy, I wouldn’t give him much credence.

Not nutty at all. I agree: Star Wars is fiction, nothing more. Though some do take their Jedi a little too seriously (Jediism, anyone?).

Not just nutty, but very sad and disturbing. I saw a story that said the recent census in Great Britian found the number of people who claimed to be “Jedi” (a silly fake religion) was much higher than the number who claimed to be Jewish (a genuine religion). There are movements all over the western world to have the “Jedi Order” recognized as a true religion. This is a pathetic statement on the health of our society. Star Wars is great fiction. Some of the movies are as good as any you will ever see. But it is not real. There are no Jedi, there never were, and God willing there never will be. All of this is just another way of pulling people (especially the young) away from God and his Church.

Jeez, lighten up a little. No one here is starting a new religion of Jedi here. It’s very common to make allegorical references to ones life after seeing a movie or reading a book. Do you realize how many religious allegories people make from the Lord of the Rings books? So what. We’re only exploring our minds and making comparisons to the story and how it fits in with what we believe. It’s not “nutty.” The things people have said in this thread made me think of things I’d never thought about before. Did it shake my Catholic faith? No. No one is looking for truth through “The Force.”

I am not disturbed by anything that has been said in this forum and I’m sorry I did not make that clear. This has been a good, insightful discussion. The story about Great Britian and several others I looked up after reading it are what worry me. No one HERE is trying to make the “Jedi Order” a religion or looking for truth in the force, but hundreds of thousands of people the world over are. That is indeed a sad statement about western society.
