It’s bad etiquette to make such a claim in your OP and not support it. Saying you’ll get around to it latter is not acceptable.
People are working, poverty is down, we are starting to tackle the opioid crisis. Seems to be getting slightly better, not worse IMHO.

Perhaps what you are really seeing is the removal of the fog that kept certain negative things hidden. With the exception of a few areas and some spikes, violent crime has decreased over the decades, abortions (medical and chemical) are down, as are a whole host of things.
However, the news media brings the more shocking negative things to the forefront because it makes money. May I also suggest that reductions in religious practice could simply be fewer people “faking it” for social reasons?

There’s part of a hymn by Dan Schutte that you might find helpful, based on Isaiah 6 and 1 Samuel 3: “Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?” When I get gloomy with the state of the world, I try to remember that the best thing I can do is to respond, “Send me.” You may not be able to change everything that seems terrible about the world, but you can do the best you can where you are, and with what you have. You may never know it, but you could make all the difference in the world. Despairing over the state of the world won’t do a thing toward changing it, and just sucks away your energy and motivation to do anything. We don’t get to decide when we’re born or when we’ll die—we only get to decide what we’ll do with the time we’ve got.

I think you are on to something here… The fringes are being brought in EVERY news article like that’s how the majority of the people feel and it just isn’t. The news really does seem to be elevating the fringes to the MAINSTREAM. It makes the centrists seem out of step…
