Stations by clowns vent

my two kids attend to Cath grade school. My daughter will be entering H.S. next year and the school she will be attending had the grade school kids over for a stations of the cross field trip. When they came home I asked them how the field trip and Stations were. My son said it was weird, like some kind of play that he really didn’t get. I said 'WHAT DO YOU MEAN AND THEY SAID IT WAS PERFORMED BY A CLOWN MINISTRY. THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS BY CLOWNS. :eek: I thought I read somewhere a document by the pope (recently) about these things…liturgical dancing and the like…does anyone know where I can find this…I thought it was a recent encyclical about the mass. I wonder what purpose and what the benefits might be, to be confusing childre ages 11-13 about the holiest events that have ever taken place…our Lords passion. I just can’t beleive it. The diocese of Cleveland needs many prayers.

Did Christ and Simon of Cyrene pile into a tiny car?

When they thrust a lance through Christ’s side, did wine and seltzer water flow out?

Did Christ dry the women’s tears with a “never-ending” handkerchief?

and it is truly sad…indeed…re-thinking sending my daughter to this school. I talked to the principle at length about orthodoxy(months ago) and so forth and she assured me consistency in teaching, etc. She did however mention “diversity” :hmmm: and I let it kind of go because the other cath school alternative is “fast times at ridgemont high”. It ain’t easy being a revert father of two kids who seem to be being "indoctrinated "as it were, at every turn.

You could homeschool them. A lot of Catholic parents homeschool their children rather than send them to questionable Catholic schools. Especially those ones that have mini-skirts for the girls. :eek:

If you need help finding the Catholic homeschool materials, I’m happy to provide you any number of links and/or addresses you’ll need for them. I don’t bother with the liberal ones; they get too weird. And best of all, if your children want to attend a college/university or do home-colleging, they’ll have higher scores than they would from other schools.

This comes as no surprise. Where I live, one of the “Catholic” high schools has for it’s board chairman a “Catholic” state senator who is publically pro-abortion (in fact the Governor, who claims to be a Catholic and is a weekly communicant, is rabidly pro-abortion and actually cut the ribbon on the new Planned Parenthood center here). From my experience, most Catholic high schools differ from public ones only in that they have crucifixes on the walls.

homeschooling at this time is not an option. For me it’s the best way to go but my wife is dead set against it andwe both have to work.
Our marriage is valid but she’s not Cath. We are divided spiritually in many ways that would be obvious. Thanks though, your right about homeschool.
 
ok… WHAT THE F*** IS WITH THESE CLOWNS???

I honestly don’t understand why anyone would even CONSIDER dressing up as a clown for mass or for the stations of the cross!!! It’s so absurd it’s almost beyond belief. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it in a video on YouTube!

Someone please explain WHY!!!

Ironic, since the church has gotten into enough trouble already from having priests who like to wear makeup. Maybe that explains “church in the round” – it reminds them of a circus tent! Perhaps one day they’ll make a hymn out of “Einzug der Gladiatoren,” the quintessential circus march.
 
Call me a little crusty, but I have hated clowns since I was a little kid. They had distorted, grotesque faces, but I found an even greater reason to dislike them after I’d studied some history. Certain martyrs in Protestant England who were to be executed were often first forced to watch a clown or jester put on vestments and mock the Holy Mass. Not that the average bozo who twists balloons for children thinks like this, but I find the concept of clowns in a church particularly distressing.

Yeah. It’s of a Sunday mass somewhere in California. Clowns were distributing the Eucharist. They had these absolutely massive coloured wigs and tons of facepaint. The most disturbing thing about it is that people seemed to think this was completely normal. It honestly boggles the mind! Are these people mentally ill? Where do they get it into their heads that it’s normal for clowns to distribute the Eucharist? It would be hilarious if it weren’t such a horrifying abuse.

Edit: ok, it was in Oakland, and they weren’t distributing the Eucharist, they were acting. I confused this with another story.

The saddest thing is I’m bringing my kids up in a church that I’m teaching them to love, and at every turn it’s something else. Ireally try to buffer my incredulity when I’m with them at mass or things to do with their school…It’s always something. So I tell them that it’s just wrong that these flipping CLOWNS were miming or whatever the HOLY-STATIONS-OF-OUR-LORDS-PASSION and they look at me with sadness…like *they let me *down or something…I’m soooooo sick of this. At election time it was 8th graders hanging “KERRY FOR PRESIDENT” banners in the halls as part of their government class. This *&%# is going on in every cath school around us. And my kids, what of them, and every other kid…it breaks my heart that I have to raise warriors for the faith to fight error IN THE FAITH??? I’m sick. I will be rising up somehow, someway to be a voice to be heard…SOOOOON!!! For OUR FAITH For our kids

when my kids were in Catholic schools in Cleveland they and some of their friends worked with an eastside suburban parish that had a clown ministry. NO they never had a clown Mass in all the years of our association. They did have events for children and families, worked with deaf children, even provided assistance for girl scouts to get a merit badge, visited hospitalized children, visited children in a residential facility for the profoundly retarded, ran programs like a safety awareness, bicycle rodeo, day camp.

They also did bible based dramas (think Godspell, a popular 70s musical where the actors were dressed as clowns) for youth groups and other parish events. And yes, in that vein, they did do an enactment of the stations of the cross, it came to our parish for several years, and many other surrounding parishes. I saw it many times, it was very reverently done, in mime, and extremely moveing, reverent, faithful to gospel narrative and tradition, in no way lampooned or made fun of the gospel characters or events, least of all Christ.

If you found Godspell irreverent and blasphemous, you would also have problems with this production. If you consider Godspell not exactly your cup of tea, but nonetheless a valid way for some people to express their reaction to the gospel events, you will be able to see how this production could benefit some people, not as a replacement for the traditional way of the cross devotion, but as another way of viewing and thinking about the events.

If I am correct, clowns, “liturgical dance”, and the like are not allowed at Mass. I am not aware of it being forbidden outside of Mass. Anyone who is much more familiar on this, please correct me if I’m wrong.

That’s a bad sign…If you ever hear someone talking about ‘diversity’, ‘Spirit of Vatican II’ etc etc. while not mentioning ‘obedience’ and ‘orthodoxy’, ‘GIRM’, ‘The Letter of Vatican II’, run away from that person.

I know. I’m in favour of artificially shifting the tectonic plates to force California out into the ocean.

At least someone spoke up. I would have bellowed my head off until my vocal chords gave way in order to disrupt that mass.
