Question regarding the stations:

Upon leaving a nearby church this afternoon (after confession, actually)…I noticed for the first time and was drawn to an outdoor display of the stations of the cross along a pathway.

As I walked toward it, the thought occurred to me that during the Octave of Easter we continue to celebrate the resurrection…should I be doing this today? (Needless to say…perhaps undergoing a slight struggle with scruples). I went through each one (though somehow got out of order)…and added an additional one to myself as I drove away (Jesus’ resurrection).

So my question, is it inappropriate to privately meditate on the stations during what should be a time of celebration? A scrupulous conscience would try to convince me that this would even be sinful if done while unsure of the answer to the above question

There is no Easter without Good Friday. It is certainly not inappropriate to reflect on what led up to the glory of Easter.

Saint Pope John Paul II added the resurrection as a 15th station on occasion so it is obviously acceptable in private devotion to add the resurrection or empty tomb as an additional station of the cross.
