First of all, I’m not venting about the devotions; its beautiful.

Just got back from Stations at my parish; 3 people (including me) and the priest. :banghead:

Sorry to hear that. I also just returned from Mass and Stations and there were at least 40 people there!

At my parish, we have a number of people who do individually the Stations of the Cross before each Mass.

I just got back too and we had about 20 but they have a very nice little get together after for soup and bread in the narthex. Of course it was a choice of veg or cream of mushroom or potatoe soup no meat. I wish more would come, but it was my first time so I will continue if I can. Maybe you will have more next time.

I have never been to a stations of the cross. I would like to go, but my parish holds this at 8pm on Friday which isn’t a good time for me. I remember going with my mom when I was a little boy.

And no telling how many angels.

I remember going with my mom too when I was little and we do them a lot different now at our Church.
We have a book and the priest read a paragraph of Jesus suffering and then we replyed with a response of our desire to act out our way in our life to exemplify what we can do for Jesus to show our courage. It only took 15 minutes.
I remember with my mom saying the our Father and Hail Mary, which I got out of the Magnificat on a Lenten book, I did this with my mom recently and it took a while. Genuflect at each one.
Try it on your own before Mass or after or on confession day, there are times when it is quiet in our Church, but not often as it is so busy, Father said try 6 am that is when he starts his prayers at Church and the only time he has to be by himself with God:)

At least you had three !

I used to be an altar boy at weekday Mass (6:15 am) and sometimes it was Mom, Sister playing the organ, Father saying Mass and me…period !

That’s nice ! 👍

Many people just don’t know about Stations these days. I dont’ know that we can fault them much for something they don’t understand 🤷

I agree, but at some point our leaders --pastors-- need to promote these sorts of things, and I’m not just talking about a small mention in the bulletin.

On the flip side, after the devotion I asked our priest if the turn-out was normally this small, and he said that usually they get some people coming over from the fish fry, but he didn’t know what happened tonight…and he also said that he received a lot of calls inquiring as to what time Stations began. So maybe they’ll be there next week.

Stations of the Cross, like other devotions, are a personal choice. If a plenary indulgence isn’t sufficient to get people to attend, perhaps it is best to pray with more Angles and fewer people.

The number of people at any service has never bothered me. Sometimes I feel closer to Christ when there are fewer people. Besides, with fewer people, no one seems to notice when I cry!

Let us all pray for those who have not yet found a devotion to the Way of the Cross. [Selfishly, I would ask for your prayers that I may find a deeper devotion to our Blessed Mother. (Thank you)]

May God continue to bless us all.

Wow, may be people forgot,… I was late at work yesterday and mentioned to a coworker that I was going for stations and he says oh Lent already ??? …

Growing up we had regular stations on Friday and a kids version on Sunday afternoon (which we went to)
However in our current parish there is only the Friday stations which is after 7.30pm mass and during Adoration.

Last night there was as good crowd… we will surely attend all…
This is DS’s 1st year as altar server and he served mass and then carried the candle from station to station. And he says he wants to do all the Lenten Fridays. I am very proud of him.

We used to run about 50. I do not know if we will have more or less this year. We just installed a walkway with outside stations so people can walk it any time. I missed the first week because or work, but will be off this next Friday.

We probably have 30-40 people regularly at our 6:30 am Mass, and ours is a small parish.

Friday night we had about 25 at Stations of the Cross, which is not bad considering it wasn’t in the bulletin. When I got home from Mass last Saturday and saw it wasn’t in the bulletin, I emailed our [new] pastor and politely inquired. At first he said no, which is understandable since he has another full time job with the diocese. Then he reconsidered and said he would lead it until he finds someone else. 🙂

Linking it to a fish fry or lenten meal usually works well.

Our high school CCD kids do a lenten meal as a fund raiser. Over at our neighboring parish, they do a fish fry.

Both have good crowds, 100+

We usually have a good turnout, but I think part of that’s because it is scheduled immediately following the KofC fish fry, so people are already there. 😉

Usually when I do stations, there are a good 160ish people there.

But it helps that its mandatory on Fridays in Lent during the last third of 7th period for my school. 😃 There are probably ten older people and parents that go besides us schoolkids.

The only thing that really bugs me as wrong about Stations is that Father isn’t there 😦 As I understand it(which, keep in mind, isn’t all that well) he gets a nice little pension because he was a chaplain in the Navy for a good three decades, and because his previous three or four parishes were all in the same area and he was caring for his brother with Alzheimers, he bought a house where he lives instead of moving frequently from one rectory to the next. And now that his current parish(mine) is a good thirty miles away from his home, he wound up not moving(again, his brother, because he’s one of those priests that never stays in one place for long) and so he’s frequently unavailable. He tries, but Stations are one thing he hasn’t been able to block out time for.

Tis sad, but we do it anyway. But also because he isn’t available for Stations anymore, we can’t really do Benediction afterwards, either. I miss that.

Stations without Benediction, is, well, sorta like breakfast without coffee… 🤷
