Stations of the Cross

Could someone help me find biblical verses that support the stations of the cross? Specifically:

Station #6: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

Station #7: Jesus falls a 2nd time

Station #9: Jesus falls a 3rd time

They aren’t mentioned in the Bible. They are just traditions. That is one reason why Pope John Paul II developed his Scriptural Stations of the Cross in 1991.

Thank you for you response. That’s what I thought. I’m part of a christian group and suggested we pray the stations of the cross. Everyone was in agreement until someone came back and said, “I can’t pray that because stations 6, 7, and 9 are not in the bible.” I couldn’t come up with a response because they are correct. Do you have any suggestions on how I would respond? Thank you!

Obviously, not everything that Jesus said or did is in the Bible. It is very believable, for example, that a pious woman wiped His face, and that He fell more than once.

Yes, remind them of John 21:25, which says, “But there are also many other things which Jesus did; which, if they were written every one, the world itself, I think, would not be able to contain the books that should be written.”

Your dilemma demonstrates why joining “a Christian group” that is not Catholic is generally not a good idea.

If you go on the Vatican website. you will find a very interesting account of the development of the Stations.

For instance, the Falls are a remnant of a much older devotion to '‘The Seven Falls of Jesus’.
