So yesterday I attended the stations of the cross and then at the end the priest said that station 15 would be the next day at 7:00.

So I went and stopped outside the church saw that the vigil was at 7:00, and realized that there was a mass so I did not go inside because I think once you enter you have to stay for the whole mass. The mass was changed from 4:00 to 7:00.

my point is, is I think they might have done station 15 at 4 instead of 7. My question is would it be a grave sin to go inside the church realize you were wrong then leave when mass was going on?

I think the priest made a bit of a joke. Station 15 is the Resurrection, celebrated at the Easter Vigil.

(The regular Saturday Mass schedule cannot be done on Easter Vigil; only the Vigil Mass is permitted, and it must begin at/near dusk or later.)

People come and go from Masses all the time, especially in tourist areas. As long as you are respectful and reverent, it’s OK. (Whether you fulfill your obligations, of course, is another matter entirely.)

It was an inside joke…it was his way of reminding everyone what time the Easter Vigil was, since the 15th station would be the Resurrection and the coming forth from the tomb, which is of course the 14th station.

You may walk into – and out of – the church or chapel without fear of commenting a sin thereby, whether Mass is going on or not.

Happy Easter.

I don’t think it was meant to be a joke but a way of making a very powerful statement as to the importance and the joy, of the Resurrection. I thought the 14th Station was placing Jesus IN the tomb. HE came forth on the 3rd day. God Bless, Memaw
