In the East, are there many more married priests than celibates?
“in the East” is quite a broad statement. Which Eastern church in particular are you asking about? Do you mean actual monks or just celibate parish priests? US or in the old country as well?In the East, are there many more married priests than celibates?
In our Eparchy I think its more or less 50/50.I have heard that 2/3rds of the Ukrainian Catholic clergy in the United States are married men.

Are these immigrant priests, or born in the US? I was under the impression that the US Eastern Churches tend not to ordain married men.In our Eparchy I think its more or less 50/50.
It would be a mix. Thank God our bishops are finally starting to ordain married men here in the US and Canada! Are these immigrant priests, or born in the US? I was under the impression that the US Eastern Churches tend not to ordain married men.
For the Ruthenians in the United States, we have not been allowed to ordain married men since 1929. No comment if a change is happening. In the East, are there many more married priests than celibates?
The Eparchy of Parma has a few native born married priests. his Grace John has had the guts to go ahead and ordain married men, it’s about time the other Ruthenian bishops did the same! For the Ruthenians in the United States, we have not been allowed to ordain married men since 1929. So in the United States, there are very few married Ruthenian priests (I personally don’t know of any as in the Eparchy of Phoenix all the parishes are very far apart), but they’re all imported from the old country.
I just looked it up! I thought that the deacon I know who is in seminary would be the first since 1929 but I was wrong! Joy! Two more deacons from our Eparchy (Phoenix) just started seminary to get ordained. The Eparchy of Parma has a few native born married priests. his Grace John has had the guts to go ahead and ordain married men, it’s about time the other Ruthenian bishops did the same!
Well, in “Eastern Canada” I understand that about 70% of our priests are married. In the East, are there many more married priests than celibates?
