World wide the statistics on Catholics who hold fast to the Church’s moral and doctrinal teachings show the majority of Catholics reject the teaching on the Eucharist, do not attend Mass weekly, practice contraception, approve of same ‘sex marriage’, fail in their ability to enunciate Catholic teaching, support a oman’s ‘right’ to choose abortion, believe that anyone of any belief can be saved…and more.

Do you think 1000 years ago most Catholics were better? I don’t have statistics, but I doubt it.

I think it’s a problem we should expect.

The Holy Spirit is not bound by statistics or our knowledge.

You will find the Holy Spirit acting in non-believers, acting in those of other religions, in the Samaritan, in Lazarus. Be at peace. God bless.

To me the laxity of the past doesn’t mean anything concerning the present. Do you see such apostasy as acceptable and if not what are we to make of it?

That makes it pretty difficult to call those people “Catholics.”

That the Holy Spirit blows where He will is not in question here. We are Christ’s Church and extra ecclesiam nullus salus. If the salt looses its savor wherewithal will it be salted?

Of course not. It’s horrible if anyone leaves. I suppose I was reading into your post the idea that the church is decaying or that this is new. But it’s not the church has dealt with it forever.

If the salt looses its savor wherewithal will it be salted?
Our Lord Jesus is great in patience and walks besides us at our rhythm throughout our pilgrimage.

Worry about keeping from sin and pick up your cross.

All others belong to Our Lord and are thus His responsibility.

Those ideas are contrary to any understanding I have from Sacred Scripture or from the lives of the saints.

It’s a pope Francis quote from the Saint Martha homilies. (I won’t google for the exact homily, please forgive me for that.)

It is not helpful without evidence of source. Point 1 smacks of sentimentality bordering on indiffentism. Point 2 counsel “worry” certainly not scriptural. Point 3 is also contrary to NT teaching as to how we are to respond to each member in the Body.

You can take my word for it on ‘bonna fide’ based on me being catholic. Google it, if the pope said so…It makes sense to me for so many reasons I don’t care to explain. Point 1 is papal, point 2 is catholic in every sense, point 3 ibidem…

Nope. That’s a contradiction in itself.

I fail to see a purpose in this thread.

SNo offense need be taken. We disagree on all three points as they relate to the original statement. Peace.

I think the majority of people are influenced by whatever culture they are raised and live in. Most of us don’t get to live in a Catholic culture.
