This statistical map does seem to illustrate all of the dissension you describe. 😎

My apologies to all. Over the years I have heard numbers tossed about reporting the various things I mentioned in my opening of the topic. I failed to research before opening my big mouth. I do think that there has been an erosion in faith and morals among Catholics. In Europe a great falloff of Mass attendance. But I did not study recent stats for these claims. I pledge to do better.

I understand what you are saying @Xpi22. And I appreciate it. And in some senses you are right and those issues do warrant plenty of concern and afterthought.

The fact is, also, that we are to be at peace.

And in these times of trouble, perhaps one of our first concerns is that we shouldn’t be easily alarmed. I have seen, even in certain Catholic media, not to mention secular media, much alarmism.

I also understand, from your profile, that you are an older gentleman, a family man, blessed with children and grandchildren. Some are not so lucky, and presently face terrible challenges including those you mention. Thus, are we to be unsettled and alarmed or to confront those challenges keeping what possible peace?

God bless.

I think you are worried about the wrong things. For example, my understanding of theology is that Christianity is defined by love of God and love of neighbor.

So I suggest Catholics concerned with the shortfalls of others focus on “love of neighbor”. If the people you criticize are more loving than yourself (or myself) then perhaps we should each focus on how we be kinder, more loving etc.? The kindness of the people who do show up may be the sole determinant of whether other people choose to show up.
