My name is Joseph D’ Costa live in Khulna, Bangladesh, with my family my wife and twins kids one daughter & one son, I have an alter at home but due to dust it is a problem of keeping it dust free, my wife wants to cover the statues at the alter but I was wondering if I make a mistake without knowing.
So please let me know weather I can cover the alter to keep it dust free.

Statues are simply sacramentals. They are not objects of worship, but reminders and aids in our faith life. Why not make a sort of tent or roof over the statues to keep the dust down? A daily dusting is fine, and shows respect for the sacramental items of faith.

Sure you can cover it - with plastic or glass. It keeps the dust away and easier to maintain.

God bless.

there is not much more that can be added to this spot-on post

some households have far greater issues to deal with other than dust…

i wouldn’t “cover” any sacred images; just clean the area more frequently…

I’ve been to many tropical countries, it is not unusual to see sacramental statues in grottos or side chapels being glassed because of dust. Some households do that as well in their homes. It takes nothing away.

glassing sacred images to preserve them from rust/dust/ humidity related damage is OK. imho

OP was talking about “covering” sacred issues

there is no need for that…
