Statue Stolen

I am curious, how many people have had outdoor statues stolen from their homes? We have had 2 Blessed Mother’s stolen in the 10 years that we have lived in this home. One small Blessed Mother, about 3 months after living here and a 4 foot Blessed Mother around 4 years ago. We have a Sacred Heart of Jesus statue outside now and on the marque board, right next to him, we put “thou shall not steal”. He is about 5 feet tall and very heavy… no one is messing with Jesus!

PS: We live in a converted church, so it isn’t too odd to have a 5 foot Jesus statue out front!
 
well…here’s another thought… maybe she has left of her own accord… 😃
 
We have a statue of the Holy Family. It is only about 2 feet tall, but is solid concrete and weighs 100+ pounds.

If anyone would go to the effort to steal it, I would hope they have more need of it than we.

(Or that we would at least receive postcards and snaps from their whirlwind trip around the world 😛 )

(Woo-hoo! This is my 200th post! Only 50 more before I become a Senior Citizen 😛 )
 
I’ve never had a statue in the front yard. I have a small Marian garden in the back with a statue of our Blessed Mother, but am thinking of putting St. Francis in the front. Theft is definitely a concern, however, since we live across the street from a park. We’ve had Christmas wreaths and other decor stolen before. My husband wants me to keep all statues in the back yard - out of sight of potential theives. It is a sad dilemma.
 
Someone stole my Bible once, I figured they need it worse than me! 🙂
 
we haven’t personally had any statues stolen, but the st. patrick statue in front of our parish has had the crozier stolen out of his hands many, many times over the years. most recently, it was cemented into his hand…but that only made whoever took it break off the hand along with it. very upsetting to the parish.

so senseless…

i totally agree:thumbsup: …hopefully whoever took it needs it more than you…at the same time stealing is wrong (and of all things a statue)…so pray for those who stole it…you never know maybe they might give it back…just pray that they are not using it for bad/ blasphemous stuff that is disrespectful to god

is it …cringe…i was just looking through some posts and answered this one…i didn’t even look at the date…though i guess my advice now would have been the same as 3 years ago when it happened…😃

I think this is a record.😃 Well if anyone cares, use bricklock cement to mortar it down to a base of portland like when you stick thinstone to a parged foundation. (I used to work with a stonemason).Bricklock is waterproof, so DON"T use it as a base. Nothing will stick to it. But portland soaks up and buttering the bottom of the statue with bricklock will make it stick. Have fun, Tim
 
I have had things stolen from my front garden, but I’m not bothered. If its in my front garden then I take the risk people may take it. I have put things out like old doors, kitchen sink etc for the refuge collection and people have taken them, good for them they are welcome to make good use of it and whilst they are at it they help to stop the problem of landfill.

To be honest I don’t put anything on my front garden I wouldn’t mind being taken. People are very poor these days and who can blame a poor person for taking an opportunity. I can’t condemn that.

Two nights ago after an operation, I let my dog out into the back garden which is a fully fenced area for his night-time ablutions. I go out with him, smoke a cigarette, look at the night sky and talk with Jesus, I stepped out after him and saw a man running for his life off of my garden (I own an Irish Wolfhound). I shouted to the man ‘God Bless you’, the man fell with a hard thump the other side of the fencing and went away, no-one has been back. Good luck to them I say, if they want what I have, let them have it, I don’t have much as it is and if they take what I have then that is my cross.

I’m not going to condemn them, who knows why a man would take such a risk, it has to be desperate.

Folks are too happy to comment and condemn, but very slow to help.

People are poor but deep down in their heart they don’t feel right when they steel things from other people - even if nice people, such as you, don’t mind them taking it.

Not sure this is going to sound weird but I would suggest that you leave a note somewhere for those who are interested in your items, if they want to have it, they could just let you know and you are happy to give it to them. As least, by doing this, you give them a chance to be honest and not commit sins.

Don’t label your car as a giving-away gift though. 😃

😃 :rotfl: I don’t have a car for them to take!

To my mind they have committed no sin, they can take anything I have, I’m not bothered, they are just things and I have found things come my way again. They only steal from me if I do not wish them to take it.

I came into some money so I sent my old Parish Priest 20 english pounds for himself because he does nothing for himself. He complained to me saying I was wrecklessly generous. I said God always out does me, two weeks later someone sent me 200 english pounds that is exactly 10-fold.

Don’t worry about stuff, hey specially if you are insured!

Stuff, possessions are nothing, they are just things that cannot love you nor can you love them, they just weigh you down. Things do not exist as such, they have no eternal value to them, but if we do not share them what great evil can happen.

I have to say if someone steals a Blessed Virgin statue I don’t think it’s out of adoration for Mary. I tend to think it would be for malicious intent.

While I’ve never had religious statues taken we did have a light up Santa taken when I was a kid. My dad heard a strange comotion on our front porch. Next thing I know he’s bolting out into the night in a housecoat and slippers. He chased a group of boys through the snow (in house slippers)until they dropped it.😃 (You do not take my dad’s stuff! 😉 )

They still have that Santa -nearly 30 years later. He’s a bit faded now.

If someone takes your Mary statue you can bet they will be blessed by it whatever their intent and you can bet you pray for the one who takes it. No great loss then, but great gain. God works in mysterious ways.

It’s a plastic santa!:rolleyes: It’s nothing! What you love is your father and family and all the memories, not the plastic rubbish that is nothing.
 
My Godmother went through THREE Baby Jesus’ in her front yard Nativity one year. They ended up finding one posed on the side of the road a few days after Christmas. The fourth one was bolted to the crib and has never been stolen.

Personally, I want to put a nativity out front this Christmas. Almost everyone in the neighborhood decorates, but no Nativities. In our families, setting up the Nativites is one of the most important part of the holiday season! My Nativity has Baby Jesus built into the manager, but my mother’s set has Baby Jesus seperate. We keep him in a drawer until Christmas Eve, and then offer prayers thanking God for His Greatest Gift to us when we place the statue in the crib. 🙂

We have a St. Francis statue in the back, but so far no one was tried to take it. We have a spilt rail fence around the yard, so if someone does try to climb in they’re going to come away with a busted behind above everything else. 😃

Um…it was meant as a funny story because it was…funny. Plus he knew me being a little girl would have been heartbroken if someone ran off with our Santa. The kids were playing a prank not stealing it because they were in desperate need of a Santa.

My dad has a big thing against taking other people’s stuff (aka stealing). He’s made police reports for a ancient radio stolen from our garage and glass being stolen from the gas light lamp post in our front yard. (Have not a clue why someone would take that.)

Someone stole my sisters bike from my parents garage. This broke my mothers heart. Why? Because it was the bike from my sister’s childhood and my sister died when she was 21. It was a hot pink 3 speed bike with a flowered seat and basket-ugly and out of style but in the summer time my mom road it around the neighborhood.The person who stole it had no idea what the true value of that bike was to my mother.

Blessedstar you are wonderfully blessed with a great detachment to material things- some of more sentimental types have to work at it.
