Hi, everyone. I just wanted to get your opinion on an experience I had.

I am not Catholic but I am a deeply devoted Christian raised in a non-denominational Protestant church. I have a deep love of Jesus and prayer and I’ve also had somewhat of an affection for the Catholic church since I was a child, even though in the environment I was raised in it was not looked on highly favorably.

Anyway, at a a very old Eastern Catholic church in a Middle Eastern country there was a statue of the Virgin Mary with blue eyes that appeared real. I went there with my friend who is Eastern Orthodox and we both simultaneously saw the statue’s eyes move back and forth from side to side. If she hadn’t said anything to me about it before I said anything, I would have probably thought I just imagined it.

What do you think of this experience? Do you think it was from the Lord and if so what possible purpose could it serve?

Thanks for your feedback!

There are actually quite a few Eastern Catholics here that might know what you’re talking about, I’ll let them comment on it, because I have no idea.

I cannot comment on whether it happened, didn’t happen but you imagined it, or something else.

My only comment is that God works in strange ways. Is it possible? Yes. beyond that, I will leave it to you.

What impresses me far more than that is Eucharistic miracles, and the story of and tilma of Juan Diego.

And that is just me; and I have no intention of denigrating your experience.

Do you think it was from the Lord and if so what possible purpose could it serve?
If you believe that it happened then it is a sign from our Lord to increase your faith. You may well be called to do something that requires a stronger faith.

Mary leads, always and everywhere, to her Son. She knows of your love of Him - but desires that you draw even nearer, ever nearer - until such time as you receive Him, Body, Blood, Soul and divinity into your body; indeed into your very being.

Amen. Jesus has shown to the world that our mother is real our faith is open to protestants and all people in this world we love our dear protestants and other people because Christ has told us to love.If you have seen it really and it struck you heart then my brother its is real because the Virgin Mary has cried in her statues because of the world sinful habits and i know it struck your heart. God bless, God loves you and I love you too.

  1. It’s POSSIBLE that there is a natural explanation. It’s possible that you and your friend coincidentally imagined the same thing. Or maybe a skilled artist drew the eyes in such a way that they seem to follow you. Or maybe someone did a conjuring trick (did anyone ask you for money associated with the statue?)
  2. It’s POSSIBLE that it might have a supernatural explanation. This could be either the work of the devil (though I doubt it since I can’t see what he could gain from it) or it could be a miracle from God.
  3. It’s not obvious to me what is the reason for this miracle, if it is a miracle. I suggest you pray to the Virgin Mary and ask her what, if anything, she is telling you to do.
