Statues in Church Cloaked

But i have given this a thought, i will not cover up the table or wallcrucifix at home as it is my home, which not is the same as the churchroom.

Never saw it stated that way before, but it seems the perfect description.
 
This past Sunday my family attended a different Catholic parish for Mass ( this parish is in our diocese) and the Crucifix and stations of the cross and all statues were covered in purple cloth.:confused:

Sometimes I am slow on the uptake, but is this proper? I always thought that everything was covered on Good Friday.

They may be covered from the 5th Sunday of Lent. Many parishes only do it after the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, the statues remaining veiled until the Vigil but the crosses being unveiled on Good Friday.
 
I saw the same thing in my parish and thought it was a little early. :hmmm:

During his homily, the priest actually explained this was entirely proper as the 5th Sunday of Lent began Passiontide. At that point, it has been customary to cover the statuary. See THIS article for more information. Note that it is not required, but it is proper.

Amazing. At 50 I can still learn more about Catholicism every day. 👍
