Statues in the front yard

I have a Virgin Mary statue in my front yard and I see a lot of them around town. I got it as a gift when I converted and I’m proud to have it there. But I’m curious if it is just done out of respect for Mary or is there more to the story?
 
When I asked my mother in law why she put hers in the front yard instead of the back, she said she didn’t want the dog peeing on it…

She did have a St. Francis in the back yard though. I suppose he didn’t mind the yellow rain. 🙂
 
Many places have Mary gardens, which have long histories, but other people just enjoy having religious statuary for either devotional or purely decorative motives.

its lets the Jehovah’s Witnesses know who you are 😛

its just a statue, and it don’t believe your doing anything wrong by having a statue of her, just as you wouldn’t be doing anything wrong by having a crucifix of Jesus or a statue of St Michael … or any other St for that matter

your honoring Mary with the statue , the Mother of Jesus who brings us closer to him
