I am wondering what the status of the Septuagint is in the Catholic Church. Is it considered inspired or authoritative? Or is it just considered a fallible human translation? Something in between?

It is certainly inspired. Approximately 80% of the quotes of the Old Testament that are in the New Testament come from the Septuagent version of the Old Testament. So, evidently, that’s the version that Jesus and the Apsotles used most.
