You also need to study history, your understanding of the Galileo contraversy is naive at best.
No kidding. He was secularly reprimanded for his theory of heliocentrism as it was actually LESS precise in explaining the orbits than the prevailing theory

Galileo proposed a circular model which was substantially flawed in it’s predictions. Even now a scientist who attempts to publish a a behavioral model that is less descriptive of the empirical data that the prevailing model is going to have a tough time.

Galileo got in trouble with the Eccelesiastic authorities when he told them they needed to rewrite parts of the Bible so it conformed with his theory.

i am such an idiot. i should have realized when you said Glaxo-Smith-Klein.

OK remember a little while ago, Bill Frist and Arlen Specter were approached to support a type of theraputic cloning where before the nuclear transfer was done, the egg itself was treated so that development into a human was NEVER possible.

Frist and Specter themselves said the technique was 100% compatible with the pro-life stance because way before the egg filled with the donor nucleus, they actually treat it with “something” (probably patented and proprietary) so that the total and final package is human, but not quite.

therefore, since a small part of this new cloned egg is no longer present, it cannot nor will not EVER develop into a human NO MATTER WHAT.

its like saying i’m 99% alive, or Im 99% married. if you are 99% married and alive, then you are single and dead.

same applies to this technique. if it is 99% human, then its NOT human.

if your husband is uses this technique, then indeed he is doing absolutely nothing wrong. the time you say he got his “promition” is exactly right around the time when this technique was in its final stages of development.

he is however, a complete jerk for not TRYING to explain it to you. you are a psychologist so ill assume youve had bio 101 and 102, so you do understand what im saying.
Emergency!!!I have not read the rest of this thread but had to reply right now!!! I have also studied this in College and have a degree in this area of research. Anyone who tries to use this argument is totally and absolutely wrong and it does not follow any fine line of moral theology. This is like saying it is okay to an embryo because it will be severly deformed and really isn’t going to be human in anyway. Not to mention the earlier statements about the maternal hormones being totally off the subject. One the egg is there the women has already given enough to make a human from her side and the sperm from the man also. This must be comming from somone who wants to rationalize this kind of work…as I always say rational lies!!! Never holds any water in an argument. Please know your facts and do not claim to understand where the church stands if you do not.

I feel terrible for you Mrs. for having to deal with a situation like this. I would say you must speak with your husband and if that does not work try to see if a priest could help etc. I really wouldn’t try to take this opportunity to end the marriage or even think of annulement. This is terribly tough issue but it is something that could be worked through. know your facts when you being to talk to your husband. Do research and then change his mind about the work. Be willing to listen to him and take it in but do not compromise your morals. I know this must be so hard to live through. Maybe God has you too together so that you can help him see the light. God bless and many prayers for you in this really challanging situation.

This is misguidance.

The human egg and sperm are not to be subjects of such experimentation. Procreation is sacred.
