As anyone received any PM’s from the OP’er in this thread? I really hope she has logged in since making the post and have seen all of our replies and is doing something ASAP to put a stop to the abuse that her Mom is suffering through.

it’s very complicated and often times the victim has been brainwashed and abused to the point where they think they are trapped in box and the abuser holds the key. its not right but thats how brainwashing works.

reading about why women (victims) do this will help the op understand how to deal with his mothers resistance to leaving.

And its to important to leave out so I’ll say it again research how to make a safe plan to get your mom and sister out.
I agree 100% with this. And from what I understand, domestic violence shelters can help forumulate an “escape plan”, and may be able to offer advice when the abused person may be unwlling or “paralyzed by fear”, becuase my fear is that even if the OP calls the police, if her mother is unwilling to press charges, then there may be little that the police can do about it. The most that might be done in that case would be to have CPS remove the younger sister.
It often takes a while for abuse victims to finally get the courage to take action.

I would suggest that the OP take some self-defense courses in the meantime so that she can protect herself and her younger sister if he turns violent on them (which is a real possibility if the OP has to intervene).

Depending on the state they live in meerly calling the police will set the wheels in motion. One does not have to actually press charges—the police pick up the ball and run with it especially if there are children in the home. But this all depends on the state they reside.

I’d be tempted to tell the step “father” that I had cameras installed in the home while he was at work and if there is so much as a sniffle caught on any of the cameras he will be bunking with Bubba for the next 5 years at the big house.

The OP is in between a hard spot and a rock as she does not want to alienate her Mother by calling the police. Her Mother more than likely would rather put up with all the abuse than to make a change.

In a day or two everything will blow over, things will settle down—until the next time---- when the OP will come back on explaining the next chapter of the story.

And this is how it will continue until someone makes a move to get him out of the house.

Get a hold of women’s shelter they will probably try to help. Call the police as well. Domestic violence is illegal so take action if you need to accordingly by law.
