Thank you for posting that. That deserves to go ultra-viral. It is wonderful. 👍

For the life of me, I cannot understand how people can do that, give a eulogy when they are grieving for a loved one who has so recently passed away. I’ve seen it done a few times, and I marvel at the strength of those folks, because I know I couldn’t do it, couldn’t even speak, much less speak so eloquently.

May Mrs. Colbert rest in peace and may God bring comfort and peace to her survivors.

I’m pregnant and really hormonal right now.

I probably shouldn’t watched that…:bighanky:

It was a wonderful tribute to his mother. Wow…11 children? How blessed! Love it!

May she rest in peace!

I love Stephen Colbert. I didn’t know his mother died. That’s so sad, and this was such a nice thing to do for her. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen Stephen Colbert that serious before except for when he’s debating in favor of Catholicism.

I have been crying all day because my cat is very ill and it doesn’t look like he is going to survive the surgery. Tomorrow I will have to have him put to sleep and I am heartbroken.

And now this. What a beautiful tribute and so nice to see such beautiful words expressed. She must have been a wonderful woman. God Bless.

Praying for you and your sweet kitty 🙂 May he have a peaceful slumber.

Thank you LeSainte. He is almost gone and I don’t think he will make it to the vet’s office. I can’t stop crying.

He’s gone.
Praying for you. I recently lost my little puppy after 17 years together. Don’t let others dismiss your grief simply because it was “only a pet”. May you be embraced by the love of the Holy Spirit today and in the days to come.

I’m so sorry for your loss as well. I hope God brings you comfort too.

Grief over losing a pet is very real and I’ve grieved each pet that we’ve lost over the years. A pet becomes a part of the family and each has a distinct personality and a place in the home and family. When they go, grief over them is understandable. It is hard and sad and it takes time to find comfort. The love you shared with your pet and your memories will help you get through this time of sadness.

Yes. A pet is not a fellow human being, but there are few losses felt as immediately as the loss of a fellow creature of God with whom you lived so intimately. The loss can be felt, as in really felt, more than the loss of a person you were not used to having so physically close or with whom you did not have such a totally unguarded and open relationship.

So sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is dreadfully difficult, speaking from experience. I hope that you cherish your fond memories and meet up with your cat once again someday.

I guess that’s why I never wanted a pet. I suppose I just skipped to the end and saw how much it would hurt, thought that was too much grief over a creature. But now my wife has introduced me to cats, and we have two of our own, I don’t even want to think about what you are going through.

God bless you.

I haven’t had a pet in probably 30 years. My husband likes to have his back scratched and his feet rubbed, my kids are cuddly, so we don’t particularly feel the need. We have a bird feeder, because I like birds but I don’t like cages.

A roommate had a cat, that was about 20 years ago. I felt sorry for him, because she “loved him up” but didn’t keep his litter box clean. I think his fur gave me allergy symptoms, though. Still, although I cringe when I hear someone refer to their cat or dog as their “kid”, I still understand how real the affection can be between people and particular fellow creatures. When they die, they really are missed, and that is a good reflection on the people they were connected with, not a bad one.

Thank you everyone. Your posts are comforting. Forrest was 7 yrs old and came to me with two other kitties that I was fostering. He was what some would term retarded or maybe neurological might be a better term as he was mentally and physically challenged. He could not jump up on sleeping quarters and so a special place was made for him inside the bathroom cabinet. He never really caught onto playing with the other two cats or toys but he would try really hard. He would watch them play with toys though and one day he did actually learn how to make the ball go around in that plastic tube and when he realized that, he stood up on his hind legs with his front paws outstretched upwards in excitement. He as the others were bottle fed and so he followed me everywhere and would look up at me when spoken to. He actually was a delight and gave us many hours of laughter and an immense amout of joy. My son and I were up until 4 am with him and he finally died as my son was talking to him and petting him. Even close to the end he would slightly wag his tail when we spoke to him or he knew we were there.

Easter Joy your post is an eye opener. I never really thought about it but the relationship with a pet is quite intimate and also unguarded as we can be with people. It is a close relationship.
Thank you all again. I also love birds but find catching them and taking them out of their natural environment and caging then is terribly cruel.

OP: I am sorry I just realized I turned your thread into a me event. I am sorry.

I very much doubt that either the OP or Steven Colbert would mind. If you haven’t watched the tribute to Steven Colbert’s mom, though, anyone out there, you owe it to yourself. It is quite beautiful!
