A tubal doesn’t have any other purpose besides contraception/sterilization.

Removing a damaged tube is not a tubal ligation. A ligation is the cutting/tieing (and now days some other creative methods) of the tubes to prevent transport of the egg.
I figured that, but didn’t know for sure. I also wanted to mention the concept of the purpose/intent.

It is my sincerest hope that someday you will come to see that it was not your only choice, and that what the Church teaches is the Truth in this matter.

I feel that choosing to save my life by not putting my life in danger with another pregnancy and also keeping me around for my kids were the only choice. Also, I don’t feel one bit of regret or conviction about it. I do believe, no matter what religion I stand by, if I truly believed that it was a mistake, I would be convicted of this. That is what the holy spirit is for and that is what the holy spirit does. But, I understand that for you and what you believe, yes it would be a sin for you and I completely respect that.

Yes, however in the Catholic Church the teachings on these subjects is clear and readily available. Some people don’t want to know, some know and ignore, and others have either been led to believe something else or are just somehow truly unware. Only God knows who is who.

Again, I would say to these people that they need to listen to the conviction of the holy spirit.

Yes, we all must do so and I work on it every day, thank goodness Christ is merciful.

AMEN To this!!! Thank God man will not be judging us because we all would probably be on our way to hell, but God never gets it wrong. Thank you God for your mercy!

I am glad you did not take offense at my post. It was not directed at you, but rather just a true sadness I feel when I read how misguided or purposely disobedienct so many in leadership and mentoring roles are.
Nope did not offend me one bit. I have seen in the past where people take you wrong, but I do respect you and I respect your faith. I just appreciate the respect you show to me when I express what I do believe. And though we both have differing beliefs and we do disagree, I believe that we both consider each to be good Christian people with the same goal in mind and that is to make it to our father in heaven.

As I said before, the ends don’t justify the means.

You can avoid pregnancy using NFP, same results, completely different means for the same result.

Well, fortunately I am in a church that allows me to make the best decisions for myself with the aid of doctors without telling me what to do. So for myself I am justified. I also stated earlier that I had not taken anything and used signs for ovulating and such. I am actually a pretty easy person to predicate ovulation on. However, Two Catholic doctors consulting with another one, said NO…NFP was too dangerous. Now, I was not calling it NFP, I was just coming off birth control pills for medical reasons and then using what I knew ( I work in the medical field) about trying to predict the times…I personally don’t think it is very liable when you do not need to for sure get pregnant and those particular doctors are the ones that got me to thinking that as they said it wasn’t. So maybe if the church is going to continue teaching this, they might want to get all their Catholic doctors on board with them on what is going on. The reason why is, if you truly have a Catholic that made the decision either way to have their tubes tied by a Catholic doctor and they acted as if it is no big deal, well then you this person that later might feel bad because they are being condemed of something they never understood. So more teaching needs to go into the church about this and also apparently in the Catholic physicians. But again, I protestants and we look at differently and see it as very appropriate to be to control the amount of children you have by these means other than abortion. I know most will probably say will birth controls pills are that type…again, that is for a whole other board, but I personally belief that if as a Catholic you are going to be beleiving completely in God and when he wants you to have kids and etc, then anytype of planing would be wrong and that would be including NFP. Just no different whatsoever if you choosing to decide when life is and isnt’. It is all the same.

It’s not the same at all and if you had studied the NFP as taught by the Catholic church instead of just using what you know, then you might realize just how different it is from birth control pills, which are very wrong. Being in the medical field, I’m sure you know just what birth control pills do and how they change your body. No chemicals involved in NFP, no shutting God out of the picture. No turning away from the gifts he has to give us. Now, this thread is not about NFP or birth control pills, so I will leave that for another thread.
The Catholic Church does not tell us what to do! The Lord tells us what to do in His word, some choose not to believe that. I was raised Protestant and I’m very thankful to have come home to the Catholic Church!

The church does not condemn anyone, and certainly not someone who doesn’t understand what they do is wrong. “Feeling bad” is not something to be avoided like you suggest. Sorrow of doing something wrong, even if one did not know it was wrong at the time, is a GOOD thing. The negative consequences still exist whether you believe in them or not.

again, the ends do NOT justify the means. Avoiding fertile times to avoid pregnancy is NOT the same as sterilizing oneself and perverting the sexual act. Both have the same result, completely different ways of getting there.

Killing grandma and waiting till she dies naturally have the same result, with two very different ways to get there. (No, I’m not saying that abc is the same as killing).

Hubby had his vasectomy reversed two years ago after we both saw “the light” in Catholic teaching. What a blessing it was to finally be free of the contraceptive “mentality” that plagues our culture so relentlessly. I would never recommend that couples sterilize their marriage. You will regret this decision one day. It is not God’s plan that husband and wife be sterile by choice. Learn NFP and how to work WITH your bodies instead of against them. You’ll be happier and much healthier - physically, emotionally, and spiritually!

P.S. We conceived our fourth child 2 months after the reversal! 👍

I have worked as a Surgical Technologist in the OB unit of a large hospital since 1993. I am usually the “scrub tech” or “assistant” in many of our scheduled C-sections. It is not uncommon to see a 4th or 5th repeat section. I have an issue when a OB/GYN tells a patient she needs a tubal because having more than 3 sections are dangerous. That is just not the case…One can tell when she/he is performing the current C/S if the lower uterine segment is thinning; most often, it’s not. The danger lies in the thinning at the site of the incision and the majority of the time, it’s actually quite tough due to scar tissue. These docs are overly concerned about a potential rupture, and when these rare things occur, it’s often a tiny “window” in the previous uterine scar, not the full 4 inches across busting open. We live in a lawsuit-happy society and most MD’s are quick to say “tubal ligation” after a 3rd C/S. Those that do should be questioned BEFORE the C/S to specifically look for thinning at the site, not just assume it’s there. Didn’t Ethel Kennedy have 9 C-Sections, back in the day they were done with a massive, vertical incision? Obviously no one made her get a tubal…look for a high risk OB/GYN and make it a female one!

I have not had a sterilization, though I was warned after Baby #2 (my second preemie in a row), my doctor was worried that I might not ought to have any more. My hospital was Catholic, though, and they recommended only NFP.

I have only second-hand experience with sterilization. My mother, after her third baby, had her tubes tied. She and my father (both Protestants for what it’s worth) have regretted that decision all their lives. My mother has confided that that action placed a great deal of stress on their marriage, and my father, during that time when the doctors were concerned about my health if I were to conceive again, warned me against sterilization. My husband and I are both united on this front, and I am thankful to God for that fact. It would be difficult to deal with otherwise.

The Church’s teaching, however, is very clear. Artificial birth control is never permitted. Avoidance of conception is permissible with grave reason, but the means for that legitimate end must also be acceptable.

The reason my doctor gave me is that the placenta can attach to the scar and cause what I think is called “placenta pervia.” Have you ever encountered this problem?

Thanks.
