Gottle of Geer:
…Mockery of some sorts at least is perfectly compatible with respect for the man and the office…
This is a very strange idea. Does it hold true regarding mockery/respect of anyone else? If mockery of some sorts is perfectly compatible with respect for Christ’s vicar, what about Christ’s mother? What about Christ Himself?

I couldn’t find his comments on the pope. I did read an interesting article on his website as to whether unborn babies and children who die are going to heaven. He doesn’t think so. TO be fair, he seems to believe that we can’t know for certain but his whole article is giving reasons why they(deceased children) can’t be assured of heaven. So this man has some other strange beliefs that strike me as rather cold. He also doesn’t believe in invincible ignorance.

The specific section of CampOnThis is the bottom (comment section) of the post about the Pope “serving up indulgences to youth: still heretical after all these years.” The link is on the left hand side of the page, currently the second link down. Mods, I trust I have not said too much…If I have, please edit.

God Bless,
RyanL

The mods did say in their response to me above that anyone is welcome to PM me and I can give out the link that way. So if anyone can’t find the article on Camp’s page, contact me.

Thessalonian,

Long time no see! Glad to see you back, and blogging with Campi with the zeal of a true defender of the faith! Wonderful. Wonderful. I look forward to reading more of what you have to say, and hope your absence was enjoyably spent.

God Bless, my friend,

RyanL
I was posting on too many boards and had to go on a diet. Having fun over there. Glad to see your still here. I will try to check in more.

This is a thread to continue the discussion from Steve Camp’s blog.

Camp’s allegations are that Purgatory is unbiblical, and Indulgences are leading people to Hell (in addition to the standard “the Pope is the Anti-Christ” and Sola Scriptura / Fide kind of thing).

As these topics can get messy, it is my recommendation that we focus this thread on Purgatory and Indulgences, taking other topics to other threads.

God Bless,
RyanL

Many of those Steve Camp blog members are simply too uneducated to have reasonable conversations. One recommends Avro Manhattan (The Vatican Billions fame), another says Alexander Hislop is right on (Catholicism is paganism), another Dave Hunt is his man.

We can’t get to the little league of purgatory and indulgences objections until we pull them up from the Tee-Ball of Jack Chick, Hunt, Hislop, etc. 😃

Here are articles more at their current level of understanding:

Dave Hunt’s Whore
Alex Hislop’s Paganism
Tony Alamo Nailed

Ryan,

Thanks for your succint statements regarding what I am trying to get accorss. I have some questions I used on another board to get several protestants to agree with the principals of purgatory. I have to go and looke them up. Unfortunately for some reason my screening service is preventing me from posting over there. I can look but I can’t log in. Hopefully I can get it resolved.

Hislop, Manhattan, and Chick? I think these people should start off with some lessons in history and basic critical thinking! 😃

My last four posts should stir em up. I went after the pet doctrine of sola scriptura which Mr. Campi brought up. Expose it for the lie of division that it is.

I just poked the hornet’s nest, myself. Let’s see where this goes…

God Bless,

Steve Camp posted another blog on John Paul II supposedly in hell. I responded with a few crazy notes in that one, since the “normal” strategy of explaining Catholic teaching didn’t seem to be working. You guys are all doing a good job. I don’t read radical Reformed writers all that much, didn’t know Steve Camp was this nuts.

You know, he used to be an average Christian singer; he was never this extreme. Not sure what went wrong.

I saw the article he did about JPII- he made sure not to accompany it with a defaced picture this time.

I think I’m going to get banned soon…
Ryan,
I don’t think he dare ban you, I read every post in the thread and I found myself emailing him to let him know how apparent it was that when he didn’t have an adequate answer he was rude and immature. I am not saying he wasn’t ever reasonable, but as soon as he didn’t like your answer he got rude. I don’t think he will ban you anytime soon because he would look like a failure for not “dealing” with you. You are doing a great job trying to keep him on topic and he is doing his best to change the subject. What is with him having several screen names to reply with? Does he think that it will look like he has more support? I was appalled by some of his posts (and of course told him as such) and I think he really has some deep seated hatred of Catholics. Keep up the good work!!!

Nope. Just got banned…
Too bad, really, since you were doing such a great job over there.

These folks are really intolerant. I joined baptist.org several months ago, and didn’t participate much, but just last month, received an email message that stated, in effect, if you would state any opinion contrary to that of the moderators, you would be banned. Obviously those folks don’t have very much intellectual assurance of their faith! 😛

I can’t really say I blame him. I was attacking everything he said, and I started “book posting” in response to his “book posting”. I probably would have told me the same thing - after all, it is his blog.

Unfortunately, he deleted my final post telling him I understood but that I wished he wouldn’t use terms like “Romish puppet” anymore. Too bad. Maybe he’ll reconsider next time?

God Bless,
RyanL

You did well, maybe a little too much Scripture there. 😃

I’m hanging in there, but I’ll probably be told to stop after posting several juicy quotes from St. Augustine, followed with McGrath, in response to his justification by faith alone – the heart of the gospel post. This won’t last long…
