Despite his Buddhist background, Jobs was often mean, manipulative and egocentric, writes Isaacson, whose book is filled with tales of the Apple chief’s abusive behavior.

“Unfortunately his Zen training never quite produced in him a Zen-like calm of inner serenity,” Isaacson writes, “and that, too, is part of his legacy.”

Kaye, the head teacher of Kannon Do Zen Meditation Center in Mountain View, Calif., said Jobs didn’t practice Buddhism long enough to let it sink in.

“He got to the aesthetic part of Zen – the relationship between lines and spaces, the quality and craftsmanship,” Kaye said. “But he didn’t stay long enough to get the Buddhist part, the compassion part, the sensitivity part.”

It would better to criticize him alive than dead.

Jobs’ personal limitations were well-known and talked about, before his death. I’m sure Jobs has other things on his mind right now.🙂

I would say the same, the man’s dead. What beneficial cause can there be for talking smack about the guy.

And I “love” (not really ) the “despite his Buddhist background” line. People are people! There are some Catholics who even though are Catholic can do bad stuff, in fact Christians, no, people in general no matter what religion have their bad side.

This just shows Bible makes sense when it says:

[BIBLEDRB]Romans 3:23[/BIBLEDRB]

God bless :byzsoc:

David

Looks like he was trying to be a good or better person in his kinship with Buddhism…trying to learn love and tolerance and patience, etc, which is what that religion teaches…but it takes some people longer than others.
He may have had many struggles in his way to work thru.
The Zen teacher quoted sounds as if he’s saying if Jobs had had more time and kept up with it, that he would have learned and grown…
Good for him if he was trying, though…which is more than a lot of people.
Jobs admitted to his Zen teacher that he was not meditating as much as he used to.

I understand the point of this thread. 🤷
I think you meant to write “I don’t understand the point of this thread”, to which I would answer that it shows that humans have ideals to which we aim, but not always perfectly realize.🙂

It might be his wish to follow the basic principles of Buddhism but that doesn’t mean it’s his low side. Since he hasn’t even claimed himself following Buddhism. He was just trying to improve over few things. Ultimately he was supposed to focus on a business for running it successfully in a highly competitive environment.

Judge not least we be judged - as others have said Steve is dead and it’s not our place to bring the hammer down - it’s God’s…
…The older I get the more convinced I am that all of us see others sins as more offensive to God than our own.
…I think the reality is that we are all in the soup, equally bad in the soup.

I’m gonna say a prayer for Steve and ask anyone reading this to say a 6 second prayer for me…
…We are all going to need all we can get.
