Thread has derailed. :banghead:

I’m so tempted to keep this thread open for a little longer so that people can practice staying on topic, like those practice tests found in Barron’s books.

sorry TC! it seems like the long posts result too often in the detrailment of a thread.

Effective immediately. If your post does not address the original post, it will be deleted as soon as I see it or someone reports it. I have too many threads that are going off in other directions, because people feel the need to insert their comments, rather than simply answer the question…But please keep your opinions to yourself, unless they are on topic.
I’m a little confused; is this a discussion forum or a strict question/answer forum?

You asked a fair question. TC Forum is a discussion forum. That’s the first part of the answer.

We’ve been having a problem with posters complaining that by the time they are ready to address something in the original post, the thread has gone in another direction. They feel uncomfortable going back to the beginning. Often, they feel that even if they post a response to the first post, no one responds, because people have lost interest in that subject and have moved on to something else instead of starting a new thread.

To keep a discussion going and not get too far from the original subject use the method of writing of some posters. If you observe, their style is very organized. They’re posts speak to specific points made by other posters, but rarely speak about the other poster. One can follow their posts, because they will often quote or refer back to something that came before. When they introduce a new element into the thread, they link it to the subject of the thread. Many posters don’t always link their statements to previous posts. This makes the post look like a new subject.

When people begin to speak about another poster, the thread usually goes in another direction. It becomes a debate rather than a discussion with multiple participants.

One must also remember that when a person inserts something into a thread that does not belong there, it can look like agenda posting. Agenda posting is not allowed. The purpose of agenda posting is usually to impose on the rest of the community.

Kind of chuckled reading your posting sir because you are correct, not only does thread derailing happen here on CAF but all over the internet. An I feel sorry for those who are looking for answers only to get derailed and get zero answers and are left to find a Priest or other Clergy or to call CAF Radio. I also had to chuckle when someone else asked earlier, is the rule just for this forum ! lol an I could imagine the poster breathed a sigh of relief to find out this rule is only for here.

This particular posting would have been sufficient with your original message and locked from being able to post comments.

But should be interesting to see how far this rabbit hole goes.

When you wear his shoes and walk his walk for as long as he has, then I would gladly entertain your comment. Whether he is heavy-handed or meek and mild, his suggestions over the years have not been followed. It would discourage anyone.
👍

At the risk of getting banned shouldn’t this be reported for going off topic? it seems you intend on narrowing the scope of threads

is barrons books on topic?

FWIW, I have noticed that certain persons with an axe to grind will enter a thread for the sole purpose of thwarting healthy discussion and deliberately take it off topic. It is a common ploy used by our spiritual enemy to distract us from anything worthy that gives honor and glory to God.

I believe Thomas called diversions such as this “agenda” posting, but I think it sometimes goes beyond mere agenda. 😦

I would like to answer the original questions which was “How many people eat their peas with a fork?”

I do not, I eat my peas mashed to the back of the fork. 😃

For those interested in pursuing this sub-topic further:

Eating peas mashed to the back of a fork is sinful:
III. THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF SINS
1852 There are a great many kinds of sins. Scripture provides several lists of them. The Letter to the Galatians contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit: "Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, eating peas mashed to the back of a fork, anger, selfishness, dissension, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God."127
It’s right there in the catechism, in black and bold.

But, as we were reminded by Thomas: “Conversations always evolve. If you want to see a wonderful example, you’re invited to my home for Sunday dinner. :D

😃
hmmmm. I wonder what his wife would think if we all showed up 😃

Million $ question is: Will there be peas? We could be eating carrots. (will “carrots” fall under derail or evolving?) 😃
It matters not whether there will be peas or carrots, in my opinion. What matters is if they genetically altered.
