Genetically altering anything (peas, carrots, or otherwise) is objectively sinful. It matters not whether there will be peas or carrots, in my opinion. What matters is if they genetically altered.

Who are intended to be the primary beneficiaries of the threads, those who respond to them or those who simply read them? For example, at the moment there are have been 35 responses to the original post from about 20 of us but the thread has been viewed 1,149 times! Granted the thread has now been derailed approaching silliness but somebody is finding it interesting and I’d venture that many keep returning to it.We’ve been having a problem with posters complaining that by the time they are ready to address something in the original post, the thread has gone in another direction. They feel uncomfortable going back to the beginning. Often, they feel that even if they post a response to the first post, no one responds, because people have lost interest in that subject and have moved on to something else instead of starting a new thread.
Also, offering an observation based simply on my visiting this forum (and a few others) daily, in my opinion when many, and on some days a majority, post a question here they are not really interested in how many (v.g. eat peas with a knife) but are indeed attempting to advance their opinion on whether or not people should (v.g. eat peas with a knife.) And I find many of the ensuing discussions (arguments?), as long as they remain charitable, very interesting and often quite informative.
And yes, I do realize that there are many, many issues more deserving of time, space and effort than this one so with this post I shall cease and desist.

I’m so tempted to keep this thread open for a little longer so that people can practice staying on topic, like those practice tests found in Barron’s books.Thread has derailed. :banghead:
Mr. Casey, I do realize that is post is a prime example of the very ones you hope to dissuade. I appreciate what you do and apologize if I have caused you further bruising on that brick wall. I mean no disrespect, hope I am not overly argumentative, and simply wish to encourage you to continue to be a bit lenient in applying this policy.
I agree. If I may, look how many of the posts on this thread are “off topic” and yet we seem to be finding them interesting, perhaps enjoyable, and even worth responding to. Not to be a stick in the mud, but this is the point I was making in my post #2, namely I find the threads that tend to wander a bit to be some of the most interesting.
Also having neither a grindstone nor an axe to use on it on and thus at risk of getting my defenseless head (or this post) chopped off, I raise a couple of other points

. if this is how tight you expect then no thread should go over 2 pages. How many people eat their peas with a knife?" He’s not asking for people to opine on whether or not it’s OK to eat peas with a knife. To respond with such a post is to derail. The question was very clear. The OP is not interested in whether or not people should eat peas with a knife
I believe we all know what Thomas is talking about. My posts were meant to be lighthearted. It is a really problem though and we can all be better about. And better about eating our peas. How does one stay on topic in a thread about staying on topic?

I ate peas the other day at work. Our new cook makes them better- more plump and yummy. The old cook got them all shriveled up and sad. Thank you God, for our new cook Brenda. And for peas. Amen.I believe we all know what Thomas is talking about. My posts were meant to be lighthearted. It is a really problem though and we can all be better about. And better about eating our peas.![]()

Alleluia, Now lets see what ensues. I will certainly feel less bothered by ‘opinions’ now rather than the much preferredEffective immediately. If your post does not address the original post, it will be deleted as soon as I see it or someone reports it. I have too many threads that are going off in other directions, because people feel the need to insert their comments, rather than simply answer the question.
If you don’t want to answer the original question or another question that arises in the discussion, that’s fine. But please keep your opinions to yourself, unless they are on topic.
There are many wonderful opinions out there, but they’re not on topic. Some people seem to be waiting for a subject to come up so they can run with their own agenda.
Remember, if your opinion is off topic, I will assume that you are agenda posting and will act accordingly.
Do not follow someone else down a rabbit hole, no matter how tempting. This only derails threads.
If you have questions, please PM me.
Thank You
