Well known Investigative reporter, Michael Willesee(from Australia), rediscovered his faith through his personal experience and live reporting of miracles within the Catholic Church. In 1998, he made a report entitled Signs From God about Catalina Rivas (Katya Rivas), a woman who displayed the stigmata from Bolivia among other miracles. Scientists put these miracles to the test live on TV hosted by Fox Broadcasting. This program shows the stigmata actually becoming visible on Catalina in the video.

The man testing the blood didn’t seem shocked at all during the events. He calmly got the blood samples as if nothing strange was happening. Makes me question the authenticity because I think someone seeing a miracle before their very eyes would be far less calm.

That’s a heavily edited video and not one I’d expect a real scientific investigation to produce.

Yeah. Far too many cuts where they could have been inflicting the wounds and stuff. The should have done a timelapse like thing. They could have set up cameras watching her hands, feet and head and then gave us a sped up video showing the wounds appearing and disappearing. The video they gave us doesn’t prove anything.

When the Church does judge things like this, they never say we must believe them, only that we can and that it is worthy of belief. We are just wondering if we should believe it or not.

It has to be heavily edited; it’s a television show. I found it convincing, but of course it all hinges on the credibility of the reporter.

The more interesting question here is what would it take for somebody to believe this? An atheist doctor in the room? 3 continuous hours focused on Ms. Rivas hands and feet? Did Willessee and his colleagues make up the whole thing?

The skeptic argument that the wounds are self inflicted is common. Note she has wounds near her hairline (crown of thorns) and a wound on her face. I would agree somebody highly skilled could self inflict these wounds with everyone in the room watching. I find it hard to imagine she could fool so many people. I imagine somebody with skills of a magician able to fool these people.

Also you have the other tests where her brain is monitored when speaking to Jesus. How does she pull that one off where her brain waves are not near normal?

The curious thing is the news she plagiarized some other writers works, although it was a small portion. Yet Dr. Ricardo Castañón Gómez, who was an atheist has studied her writing and it is impossible for her to write so much material so quickly without error. Compare to Vassula Ryden where her writings are full of errors.

It is very difficult to get the perfect scientific test. Compare this to people who refute climate change, smoking is bad for you, sugar is bad for you (movie ‘Fed Up’).

How could the Medjugorje seers go through all those scientific tests by recognized people and not get nailed as liers or as creating mass hysteria?

How could somebody make up writing like this?

The formerly atheist doctor in this video is Dr. Ricardo Castañón Gómez. I have spent the last month attempting to verify ANY of his credentials and have been unable to verify a single one. I have been in direct contact with Ron Tesoriero and he has been unable to answer my most basic questions…like where did the doctor earn his PhD in clinical Psychology and when? This doctor claims to have written over 400 scientific and scholorly articles…yet there is no mention of ANY of them in a google Scholar search or any other search. After I began my investigation, the Doctor took down his Facebook page. Does this sound fishy to you? I encourage you to attempt to verify any academic claims this man has ever made and decide for yourself.

I haven’t watched the video, and I’m not really interested in doing so. I believe stigmata exist, and that they can be a witness to the spirituality of the person who receives them eg. Padre Pio.

Michael Willesee might be a Christian, but he’s also a hard nosed reporter. He was well known on Australian TV circles long before 1998. I’ve attached a Wikipedia link regarding Willesee’s career. If you read it, you’ll see he’s not someone who’s frightened of confronting people in authority, or anyone he thinks is a fraud.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Willesee

The reason I’m saying this is that he’s a cynical journalist by nature, and unlikely to be easily deceived.

Re: Stigmatist’s Video - What are your thoughts?

Hi aanto88, 🙂

I believe she is legitimate, and I don’t believe I came to that conclusion lightly either. For me personally, her credibility rests with the miracles, the reputable eye witness such as Mike Willesee and most of all the writings themselves, which have deepened me in the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church in many ways.

I hope you don’t mind if I try and answer the various questions other posters have voice below.

God Bless

Hi randomusername 🙂

I believe it’s because they conducted ‘blind tests’ meaning that the ones doing the testing had no knowledge of what they were examining so that the results would contain no biases or ambiguity.

I hope you don’t mind if I share some more information about this Eucharistic Miracle that I believe may help.

This Eucharistic Miracle was also approved by the Archbishop Jorge Bergoglio, who we all know now as Pope Francis. 🙂

IT CAN’T BE TRUE

The first and most natural response to the event described (Eucharistic Miracle of Argentina) is disbelief. How can bread become heart? Surely someone intent on creating a hoax or faking a miracle engineered the whole deception.

The witnesses to the first days of this unfolding process were not unaware of possible future allegations of tampering with the contents of the bowl. Padre Alejandro Pezet and Emma Fernandez insisted that the original tabernacle had been kept locked and no one else other than the ministers of communion and the priests of the parish had access to its contents or to the key. Furthermore they say that on the 26th of August, a week after the host was originally put in the tabernacle, the bowl with its contents was transferred to another separate private tabernacle in the presbytery and locked. This time only the parish priests had access to the key. Pezet speculated that, “Even if someone could have put something in the bowl before the 26th August without me knowing, you have to ask how that person could gain access to a locked tabernacle in another place and make it change it’s characteristics to look like what you see in the photo on 6th September 1996.”

The assurance the Argentine priests have in the security provided by the tabernacle arises from a custom with centuries of history. A tabernacle in a Catholic Church has always been a solid container, like an ornamental safe or locker, often built into an altar or a wall. Traditionally constructed of an inviolable material (often metal), it is never transparent and, above all, always capable of being securely locked. Its function is the reservation of communion hosts. Access to it is strictly limited to priests and to the few lay ministers directly involved in celebration of the Mass. Pezet drew attention to the fact that an obvious process of change was evident even after it was locked in a second tabernacle to which only two priests had access. To suspect either of them in manufacturing a hoax becomes absurd in light of the scientific report. The questions to be considered before making any hypothetical allegation of deceit involve far more than simply asking how someone could have placed human heart tissue in a locked tabernacle.
Please continue to next post -

Continued:
Dr Zugibe, the heart specialist, asserts that the tissue was a snapshot of active human cell behaviour. It was evidence of life, not death. And yet what the professor is describing is tissue on a slide, prepared and fixed five years earlier after having been in water for more than three years. This means that until the tissue was fixed as a slide, it must have remained as living tissue. Why does Professor Zugibe say it was alive? Because white blood cells, particularly the clearly visible, intact, polymorphonuclear leukocytes, cannot survive outside of a body for more than a few minutes before disintegrating. Indeed the entire life span of white blood cells is a short cycle of days even when in a living body when they are actively addressing trauma in a tissue.

Dr Zugibe’s assessment of the good state of preservation of the white blood cells and the muscle tissue was what might have been expected if they had been placed in a preservative like formalin. But the liquid substance in which the material sampled had been kept was analysed by Dr Thomas Loy of Queensland University on 30 August 2001 following which he reported, “No organic odour was detected that might be associated with histological fixing chemicals (commonly, alcohol, xylene, formaldehyde). The refractive index of the fluid was compared with water and known standards and determined to be essentially that of water.”

Biology textbooks will tell you that all tissue, but particularly white blood cells, dissolves and disintegrates readily when placed in water. Osmotic pressure on cells placed in distilled water is higher than tap water and more detrimental to their longevity. Dr Zugibe confirms “it would be impossible for the white blood cells to be present in the sample if the sample had been kept in water” and that, “if this tissue had been placed in water it would normally have broken down within one week.” Yet what he sees in his microscope is heart tissue with white blood cells that was in water for more than three years and yet still presented as vital. Dr Zugibe’s assessment of the white blood cells accords with textbook analysis of what occurs to blood cells if left in distilled water. By osmosis water moves into the cells which then swell and explode, undergoing cell lysis, meaning cell destruction, which essentially means they, or even remnants of what once were cells, would be very difficult to find under a microscope.

Zugibe not only identifies tissue, he examines it forensically to provide an historical account, a picture of what recently transpired in the heart from which the tissue is only an extract. He provides a timeframe. He interprets what he sees and provides and educated evaluation of what happened in the life of that ‘person’. This ‘person’ experienced cardiac trauma two or three days earlier. Dr Zugibe could date the event that compromised the blood supply to the heart by the presentation of the tissue itself and by the process of immune response underway.

Not only was the person ‘alive at the time the sample was taken’ but this person had a particular medical history because this particular heat tissue revealed, 'degenerative changes consistent with a recent myocardial infraction of a few days duration…due to an obstruction of a coronary artery that supplies nutrients and oxygen to an area of heart muscle. This obstruction may be the result of atherosclerosis or a coronary thrombosis or," said Dr Zugibe, “a severe blow to the chest over the heart.”

Clearly questions about the phenomenon are more complicated than simply asking how someone could have had access to a locked tabernacle and manipulated a piece of bread so that it transformed into what appears to be human tissue. Had someone say a surgeon or a murderer, sliced off a small piece of heart tissue from the left ventricle in the vicinity of the valve from a living person and then dropped it into the bowl of water with the wafer, how could he have then engineered it to be progressively embedded in the host so that it was of one substance with the wafer? How could he have ensured it’s continuing transformation whilst securely locked away? How could he have defied and altered the natural rates of decomposition for white blood cells and kept the white blood cells alive for longer then a few minutes? Indeed how could he have defied the physical laws of entropy and decay and kept the white cells alive for three years in water, cells which under normal circumstances would not last for more than a few minutes? How would he have engineered his hoax so that it was it was identified as laboratory analysis as clearly containing human DNA yet stubbornly resistant to yielding his ‘victim’s’ DNA profile? How would he have maintained an ongoing process of tissue activity (inflammation) in a disembodied piece of heart whilst transporting it from a theoretical corpse/murder victim to the glass bowl of the tabernacle? How could he have that process of life continue after placing the tissue in water? And since no human could survive having a piece of his heart removed one has to ask where the remainder of the heart is? And morbidly, where is the body?

Continued:
The substance which was analysed by scientists had the appearance of human heart muscle tissue and the presence of human DNA. It was the same substance which appeared spontaneously from a wheaten host. It is reasonable to conclude from evidence given by the Argentine witnesses that it was the same communion host that was put in the glass bowl with tap water on 18 August 1996, the communion host and nothing else. The likelihood of tampering with the contents of the bowl or the host before the transformation was witnessed is implausible given the subsequent scientific evaluation of the transformed material. The heart tissue revealed a recent history of trauma and an immune response to that trauma in the form of white blood cells. These were intact and had nuclei. The white blood cells were living at the same time the sample was taken. The survival of the white blood cells and the preservation of the tissue after having been placed in water for over three years is scientifically inexplicable.

If the evidence of witnesses and the results of the scientific investigation are accepted, what appears to have occurred is that life has emerged from an inanimate piece of bread. Living cells, each one as formidably complex as contemporary biology teaches, have come from matter which is not alive. Life has come from non-life.

This event is of immense significance to science in general and to origin of life science in particular. But that’s not all. The momentous implications of the astonishing transformation have been substantially raised. The status of the Argentina phenomenon is now supported by new evidence. The same thing has happened again. The case is not unique. (Talking about The Eucharistic Miracle in Poland, Sokolka, October 12, 2008 in the next chapter of the book).

The following I believe may help - youshallbelieve.com/A-plea-to-humanity.pdf
Mike Willesee made his first trip to Bolivia in July 1998. He went back in Holy Week of April 1999 bringing with him his own film crew to record the story for the Fox Network Television Program. He was hoping that Katya would have the stigmata on Good Friday of that week and that he would be able to film it. The day before Good Friday, Katya said to Mr Willesee that she had had a message from Jesus saying that she would not have the stigmata the next day but that she would have it on the Friday following the Feast of Corpus Christi (which would make it Friday, 4th June 1999, some two months away) and that he could return then and film what happens.
We retuned on 3rd June and we were given unrestricted freedom to film. We began filming her on the evening of the 3rd and then through the next day. At 12 noon, on 4thJune, at the exact time and date that Katya predicted the stigmata would occur, we saw and filmed small red dots appear on her palms and her feet. These marks then slowly opened up to form somewhat circular and deep severe wounds which began to shed blood. There was a symmetry to the way the wounds appeared and developed in both hands and both feet. They all began at the same time and progressed as bleeding wounds at the same rate. While wounds appeared on her hands and feet, wounds began to appear on her forehead.
The wounds on the forehead appeared one after another across the forehead as we watched. These wounds looked as if they had been caused by something sharp, small and pointed. There were perhaps 20 or so. On her left cheek there appeared a swelling and a heavy bruise mark, of the sort that one sees when someone has been given a hard punch to the face.
Throughout all this Katya was seen to suffer the pains of the wounds she had. As the time approached 3 pm she began to suffer from difficulty in breathing and what seemed like a congestion in her lungs. At about 3.10 pm, all the pain subsided, and her injuries began to heal.
By the next morning the injuries she had to her body had completely healed. (The medical opinion is that the wounds like she had should have taken at least 4 to 6 weeks to heal). There were at least 9 people in the room who witnessed Katya experience the stigmata that day. Not only was there Mike Willesee and myself, but Greg Barbara, (an Australian 60 Minutes cameraman), his sound recorder, Ralph Steele, Neuropsychophysiologist, Dr Ricardo Castanon, and other people.
Since the broadcast of the Fox program, there have been some journalists and critics who have gone to print to publish what they suggest was the case, namely that Katya inflicted those wounds on herself, or they were inflicted on her by someone else and that Mike Willesee had been duped by some clever fraud to think otherwise.
It is interesting that not one of those journalists or critics has asked to see the raw footage of what was professionally filmed of what actually happened. Nor have they sought to speak to or interview any of the 9 witnesses who saw what happened.
Also what these critics have conveniently failed to consider, is that if they believe Katya or someone else somehow inflicted these severe wounds on her without the camera or the witnesses noticing, how did she make those wounds heal completely overnight as they did?
I hope this has helped 🙂

I agree. 🙂

The following is a preface to her writings (which also contain a Roman Catholic Imprimatur by the local Archbishop)
INTRODUCTION
This booklet is part of a larger collection of books (see list on last page), dictated in large part by Jesus and the Virgin Mary to Catalina (Katya) Rivas. The books reflect traditional Catholic teaching and spirituality and are available at www.LoveAndMercy.org for reading and printing at no cost. People are encouraged to copy these texts without change and distribute them in support of the beloved Pope John Paul II’s call to a New Evangelization.
These books of “The Great Crusade” are part of a growing collection of now more than twelve publications in Spanish containing teachings that transmit the spirituality of the Apostolate of the New Evangelization (ANE), which is based upon the Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The books are progressively being translated into English and other languages. An Imprimatur or recommendation by Catholic Church authorities can the found at the beginning of each publication.
The ANE is a Catholic movement of lay people that arises as an answer to Pope John Paul II’s insistent call to those baptized to commit to the task of promoting the Good News that Christ has died and risen for our salvation from sin.
As Catholics that we are, we completely submit to the Teaching of the Church concerning “Private Revelations” as stated in Canons 66 and 67 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, published in English in 1994:
Canon 66: “The Christian economy, therefore, since it
is the new and definitive Covenant, will never pass
away; and no new public revelation is to be expected
before the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus
Christ.” Yet even if Revelation is already complete, it
has not been made completely explicit; it remains for
Christian faith gradually to grasp its full significance
over the course of the centuries.
Canon 67: *Throughout the ages, there have been socalled
“private” revelations, some of which have been
recognized by the authority of the Church. They do
not belong, however, to the deposit of faith. It is not
their role to improve or complete Christ’s definitive
Revelation, but to help live more fully by it in a
certain period of history. Guided by the Magisterium
of the Church, the sensus fidelium knows how to
discern and welcome in these revelations whatever
constitutes an authentic call of Christ or his saints to
the Church.
Christian faith cannot accept “revelations” that claim
to surpass or correct the Revelation of which Christ is
the fulfillment, as is the case in certain non-Christian
religions and also in certain recent sects which base
themselves on such “revelations”.*
If Jesus speaks to your heart as you read this book, please share these words with people who want to open their hearts to the call for a New Evangelization. Invoke the Holy Spirit so that It guides and grants you the gifts that you need for a good personal conversion and grants the same for those with whom you share this booklet.

Translated from the original Imprimatur in Spanish:
Archbishop of Cochabamba
Casilia 129
Cochabamba - Bolivia
IMPRIMATUR:
We have read Catalina’s books and we are sure that their only objective is to guide us all on a journey of authentic spirituality, founded on the Gospel of Christ. The books likewise highlight the special place occupied by the Blessed Virgin Mary, our role model in loving and following Jesus Christ, our Mother to whom we should offer our complete trust and love.
In renewing the love and devotion to the Holy Catholic Church, the books enlighten us on the actions that should characterize a truly committed Christian.
For all this, I authorize their edition and distribution, and recommend them as texts of meditation and spiritual orientation, with the purpose of answering Our Lord’s calling to save many souls, showing them that He is a living God, full of love and mercy.

I believe the following may also help you -

youshallbelieve.com/A-plea-to-humanity.pdf

A person assisting in the translation of one of the books from Spanish to English, summarised the impact on him in these words, “This book is moving in the extreme, not because it contains some new or exciting revelation, on the contrary, but because it reveals the Gospel we thought we knew in a manner so fresh, so immediate, so tangible, so real that we are -unless our hearts are made of stone - profoundly touched and thankful that at the same time Our Lord who is life itself, has been so kind to see fit to approach us again, in this way, through this sweet and humble woman in Cochabamba.”

I hope this has helped
