Still pray even when sinned?

When I sin I get so annoyed and disheartened. I was only at confession the other week and I have a habit of not thinking before I speak or being more considerate to those around me. Losing my temper and not letting go of past problems with people. I think to myself am I a hypocrite to continue praying the rosary? I know we have to keep trying and we all sin but I get so annoyed at myself and think I’m not worthy to pray? Is that a stupid way to think?

It is an understandable way to think for those of us who get discouraged when we sin (and I’m also a member of that club). I wouldn’t call it stupid, but mistaken. We should pray as soon as we realize we have sinned, ask for God’s forgiveness, mercy and the grace we need to do better, and then continue with our prayers until our next confession. When it comes to prayer and the thought of quitting, don’t give up, and don’t give in!

You should definitely keep praying after you sin. Its very important so it doesn’t grow into worse sins and discouragement. God doesn’t want us to get discouraged, it comes from pride (expecting ourselves to be better than this), and it prevents us from growing spiritually.

I think we never “deserve” to pray, even when we have just gone to Confession. Its God’s Mercy. 🙂

Try to not be discouraged after this. It takes a while to get over habits even though we should always intend not to sin when we repent and confess, since that is what repentance is.

The discouragement is probably even worse for you spiritually than the actual sins of getting impatient with people. Here’s a prayer that helped me:

No prayer is wasted. Your perseverance is itself a form of prayer. God bless!
 
Being sad that you sinned is a GOOD thing, it means the Holy Spirit remains at work in you and is convicting you of your sin to draw you CLOSER to God. But don’t be discouraged- Jesus told St. Faustina that everyone who comes to Him for forgiveness glorifies His Mercy.

As a fellow Catholic, I do understand your struggle. I go to confession every week. I nearly always commit and confess the same sins. I get so disgusted with myself! I start out with a very firm purpose of amendment, but then I fall. But I must trust- and you must trust- that Jesus is there in the confessional to help us up again.

And definitely keep praying the rosary! As Our Lady to hold your hand, as a mother will, and to lead you to Christ. She will help you!

Praying is what you need to help you overcome sin. So stopping it won’t be your fix for anything real.

I mean it’s sort of like a guy who needs a cane. If he falls down every now and then does that mean he should go without it? Because he clearly doesn’t know how to use it, right?

Or maybe he’s best if he just tries to be more careful? And tries a lot harder to make full use of the cane he’s got?

I don’t know if that helps.
 
Remember that discouragement is a tool of the devil.

Always pray! The Lord loves you and will help you with His grace.

Keep up the prayer no matter what!

St Padre Pio said:
“Those who pray are safe,
Those who sometimes pray are in danger,
Those who never pray are lost.”

He was warning the dangers of not praying.

The Catechism says:
“Prayer is a precondition set by God for obtaining grace.”
You can only obtain God’s grace through prayer.

So, no prayer means no grace.

Jesus told St Faustina,
“Heaven is not given to the perfect, it is given to those who persevere.”

It means that even the saints were in need of God’s Mercy and of confession.
And so are all mankind in need of God’s Mercy too.

It’s not how many times you fall, but how many times you rise after you fall. And continue praying and going to confession.

Prayer and confession will eventually change you.

Sometimes doing little penance is needed too,

Jesus told his Apostles about a possessed person they prayed over, “This one can only be cast out through prayer and fasting.”

So little things like, on Wednesdays and Fridays, not using Facebook, or not using the Internet unnecessarily, or not watching TV on those days, or on a Friday giving up sweets for Jesus.
Little penances can work miracles too when offered to God. Because your soul is telling the mind, the soul is in charge, if you can say no to earthly things through little penances, you can say no to venial sins that you wish to get rid of.

First off: good one you for receiving the Sacrament of Confession! 👍
Please don’t stop praying! Try praying and asking for the grace to persevere in your prayers! A beautifully cyclical prayer request. Take for example The Little Flower. Her prayer life / relationship with Christ was that of a little child. Have you ever heard a little toddler ramble on about anything? As a parent of a toddler I find it is adorable / hilarious. :rotfl: Even if the little one is upset / frustrated at herself for her behavior, I still thoroughly enjoy conversing with her. This relationship dynamic is the closest thing I can parallel with our each individual relationship with Our Blessed Lord. Even after sinning (maybe even especially after sinning), Agnus Dei loves when we turn to Him in prayer.

But one of the Saints wrote: “True confessions raise our place in Heaven forever”

Focus not on the sin, but on Jesus forgiveness.

St Margaret Mary of the Sacred Heart wrote,
“We are supposed to have God’s peace always!
Even if you sin, just repent, resolve to say it in confession, and reclaim the Lord’s peace where you are, even as you await your next confession.”

Don’t let satan rob your peace.
Satan wants people to give up, the only way he can get a foothold is if someone stops praying,

God wants you to keep getting up after each fall, and make the finishing line of the race.
