If this is you only problem, I assure you, you don’t have a problem. I been on Gods “extended life program” for many years now. I’m positive he didn’t walk me through hell to die drinking coffee. 😃

I gave up women before my conversion. I have been much more relaxed and less stressed out since. Do they count as stimulants? 😉

:rotfl:

Depends on how you handle them. Sometimes they can be a real downer. 😃

What is the position of your religion / community on stimulants.
Are you allowed to take amphetamines? Does it become ok if a medical practitioner advises you to? Does the practitioner need to be of your religion?

Are you allowed to take caffeine? If you are allowed does it have to be in the form of drinks ie tea, coffee, soft drinks? or are pills and powders also allowed?

Is there scripture that supports or inspires your religions position? are there other writings or people that instruct your religions position?

If you are allowed caffeine but not amphetamines can you explain the rational of the difference?

appreciate you time in sharing with me

God bless you and yours
The Queries are a device used within the Society of Friends for prompting both corporate and individual self-examination**…"Do you strive to develop your physical, emotional and mental capacities toward reaching your Divinely given potential? Do you cultivate healthful and moderate habits, avoiding the hazards of drugs, intoxicants, and over-indulgence generally? Do you try to direct such emotions as anger and fear in creative ways? "**

I would have to say, 2 things are required in my line of work. Coffee and nicotine.
What do you do? Are you in an experiment? Where i live i have never heard of a job that requires them. Not saying its untrue just new to me. In my country our armed forces (IMO one of the most stressful and noble jobs a person can do) try to help its members be healthy and not dependant on such things. These brave people are already at high risk from an enemy who wants to deny their choice to be out of harms way.
It is my understanding that both are all right as long as they are not being abused.
For me being true to your conscience is most important and i am called to serve those who are outside of their conscience and want help to be straight with it.
However, when I weigh the harm a cigarette or a cup of coffee can do to me, compared to a mortar round.
Strange words, i doubt any one would make a choice to be blown up by a mortar round. Even those serving us in combat try to avoid rounds that others fire at them.
honestly, I am not too concerned about the health effects of two of those. Not to mention, that some studies have pointed to caffeine use and nicotine use as being beneficial in prevention of alzheimers and parkinsons disease.
I find these studies very interesting. If we explore the data we may find its not in all cases and need to weigh other studies that show smoking kills. (PS) i am often burdened by smoking. Deluded by satan that they can help with stress rather than me turning to God who is the best of providers of my needs.
So I will keep smoking and Drinking coffee thank you very kindly. 😃 Peace 🙂
Did not understand this, who is the “you”, you thanking?
Blessings to you and yours

have to watch it with amphetamines
they are schedule II so high possibility of abuse
(taking more than prescribed eg if you’re taking 3 or 4 times what Doc is prescribing, bad. becomes addictive, and can cause harmful side effects eg withdrawal, ticks, arrhythmia etc. even at the doses used for narcolepsy addiction is reported)

best to stay away from it unless as someone already mentioned its needed medically, PDR indicates it only for ADD and narcolepsy not for weight loss, late night study etc

if you’re getting it in any way unprescribed, (eg methamphetamine) thats illegal :tsktsk:
first time you’re caught, misdemeanor
after that, possible felony possession, and you go to the clink for like a year or so.

[just noticed you’re from Australia, what’s the legal status of amphetamines down under]

coffee ? enjoy it

Hi Bro,
I am not sure of the legal status but i feel sure we are very similar, My posting was to look at how different religions view things and see if they see stimulants in the same light.
Please dont worry over me and be assured i am not about to take them, i have no interest.
It took a lot for me to get of my caffeine dependence.

This thread has had me reflect further and has been of benefit to my self reflection on occasional coffee use for long days.

Reading the posts hear has made me consider using coffee is not the best thing for me. It shows my serious lack of faith clinging to things of this world.

I use a drug (coffee, calling a spade a spade) to stay alert when i should ask God and trust in Him to give what i need. He is the best of providers.

I have justified taking the drug above God by my perceived need.

Now the biggy is will i take the next step and come closer to fully trusting Him.

Bless you and thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

Hi Steven. That post was just a little tongue and cheek. 😃 Austrailian soldiers are some of the toughest soldiers around. Is it true, they get them liquored up just before a battle to make them meaner? 😉 Ive heard this. I talked to one of your Navy personel, and asked her. She said she wasnt sure, but that they in the navy sure like to drink.
The comment about the Mortar round? Im 31 bravo. Combat Military Police. The point Im making, is its more likely I would be killed by a mortar, than suffering any harm from a cigarette or a cup of coffee. Yes we try to avoid them. Sometimes you are just in the wrong place at the wrong time though. Its a cowardly way to attack in my opinion.
I am going to be checking out the electronic cigarettes when I return to Hawaii. Ive tried a few puffs here, and Its very similar to a real one, minus the tar and other carcinogens. and you just expell water vapor. So who knows? there just may be a viable alternative for me. 🙂 If you are a smoker, you may want to look into these, if your habit bothers you that much. Peace 👍

And he provided coffee:)
Yes it is a fair point but there are many things available by nature but that does not make them good fur us to become dependant on or in some case to consume at all.
Blessings to you and yours

Hi, sorry to have taken you so literal, re reading i see your expression.
Thanks for the tip on the electronic smokes.
I must confess i often feel i am the worst of smokers, i say this because i have prayed for help many times and He has truly made it easy for me i stop for a long time without much suffering.
Then i do the same bad slip that i am aware of, just one will be ok, hey i had one last week and look i am ok, slowly but sadly i let my self slip to having some daily. I know its satans word i listen to and God i am rejecting wow is me for being so blessed and so stupid while my brothers have a hard time of it. May God have mercy on me.

As for getting our forces members smashed b4 battle, i have never heard it and doubt it. After though i am sure its true, drinking is a real part of our culture.

I have no probs and i do from time to time get pissed, i am a happy drunk who still has control. Not so for us all and i am reminded of the narrations that say dont do what makes your Bro stumble. If no one drank here it would not be produced and that would help those who are “problem” drinker.

I have an X who should not drink and when i was with her i avoided drinking with her because she was so bad.

I do see the root of Christians as being the covenant offered to the Jews and where they are told to drink as celebration of being a free people.

I guess i could say no to drinks without any problem or loss for my Brother but where do we stop, people eat too much chocolate, people drive card too fast and so on.

Any how i think i am descending into that part of my brain that is too much and very unessential for this thread.

I see the last supper as Yahooshua (pbwh) offering his life for us and showing we are to out ourselves on the line for others.

I thank God for what you do for us all. Bless ya a bunch

Interesting my friend. I dont really have a conscience problem with smoking. I just dont like the smell. LOL! I figured out I have a drinking problem, when we were allowed to have 2 beers for the super bowl in Iraq here. Real Beer! I got really mad when they made us wait till kick off…I had already seen the game the night before, and had already watched the kickoff!😛 It was tape delayed. Im planning on enrolling in college and start a band when I get back home, so I have something to occupy my time minus the bars. Still gonna tip a few back, but Im gonna be cutting way down. If that dont work. I will have to quit altogether… 👍

Well any drug that is illegal should not be taken. If you get something from your Dr and it is to help you it is okay.

Coffee is okay, just like wine, etc as long as you can control it and it does not control you. Anything legal is okay as long as it is within reason. Once you see something seems to control you it can become a sin, and must be either stopped or controlled.

I agree. What I never understood was how coffee can be addicting. I like my morning cup of coffee, but I frequently go weeks without it and I feel none the worse for it.

Steven John, first let me say Hi, and I hope this note finds all well with you. Haven’t spoke with you in what a year?

Anyway are you familiar with Dr Oz? He has become very popular on prime time TV here in the states. I don’t watch much TV my leisure activity is Reading and Playing music. Nonetheless, I did catch him last week and he spoke about coffee. He actually stated that in moderation it has more pro’s than cons. The specifics I do not remember. But I believe you can check his web-sight for the specifics.

I use to drink Coffee basically all morning and early afternoon during work. Yet a few years back I decided to cut it back to one coffee, and on a rare occasion two in the morning. At this point I was running to the mens room constantly and thought “this can’t be good for my blatter”. So I cut back using natural juice as a sub.

But my point is I was surprised to hear that this actually is a better vice than many are led to believe.

It would be worth looking into…Good to see you around!👍

God Bless, Gary

Oh I can’t function w/o my coffee:D But only a few cups to start my day. But then you hear its bad for you, then its good for you! Who knows:confused:

But I remember what my Mom and Dad always said, its not what you put in your mouth that’s going to send you to hell, its what come out of that mouth that will get you. My Mom always said that tongue can be sharper than a razor blade:eek:😃

Hi again, Here’s a link with the information the March show. March 9th I “think” it aired.

Anyway…

doctoroz.com/blog/kristin-kirkpatrick-ms-rd-ld/thumbs-your-daily-coffee-break

Now let’s be clear on this. Dr Oz isn’t recommending the type of coffee that most people seem to be drinking.

We’re not talking about the Starbuck’s junk with 400 gazillion unhealthy calories in it.

Coffee actually has been shown to reduce liver cancer and to be effective with—or with symptoms of—Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, Dr. Oz says.

“So there are a bunch of different places where coffee can play a role. The reason it got a bad name is because it does have side effects, for example, migraine headaches and heart palpitations.

But if you’re not having them, coffee is reasonable.”

I know exactly when I’ve reached my limit with coffee: when I feel a “mild” atrial fibrillation and fine tremors in my hands…😃
