I don’t know much about stoicism. I do know that the “ideal of denying oneself” as applied to Buddhism, or non dualism especially, is vastly misunderstood due to Western ideas of self and person, and some rather different understandings of “self” “person” and especially “I” in Eastern thought. So what comes off to a typical English speaking mind as destruction or elimination of self in Eastern thought is not what it might seem to be at all. Not by a long shot.
