I was in San Francisco on Saturday when my backpack was stolen from my friends car. Within it was my wallet, $200 cash, my credit/debit cards, Ipod, IDs, and most important to me of all, my grandfather’s dogtag from the Air Force (he passed away two years ago and it was one of the only things I had left to remember him by, I kept it on me constantly to remind me of him).

Please ask for the intercession of St. Anthony and of the Blessed Mother in returning these things to me.

Also please pray for the poor soul who saw it fit to steal this things from me.

And last, please pray for me, I’m having trouble not being angry with not only the person who stole the items, but also my friend who left his car unlocked while I was gone, allowing this person the opportunity to steal my things (they were hidden well away inside the trunk, he opened it and allowed them to see inside, then walked away and left the car unlocked and unattended). I know it was not his fault, but I still can’t help but be angry.

Normally I would not be this upset, but I miss my grandpa very much and that was basically the only thing I had left of him.

Thank you all very much

Any advice, words of wisdom, or good scripture passages you might have for me would also be greatly appriciated.

Dear St Anthony, please intercede so that the stolen backpack and all its contents will be found and returned intact. Please also help jsmith “find” a sense of inner peace and forgiveness towards the thief.

I feel for you. It isn’t fair, is it.

I ask God to help you with the difficulties and the sadness and the injustice of your losses. I ask Him to help you with your understandable anger. I ask Him to forgive both these people from within you, as naturally enough you find it hard to forgive. And I ask God to help you to pray for these people, which is the best forgiveness you can give even if you don’t feel it.

“Be calm, but vigilant, because your enemy the devil is prowling round like a roaring lion…Stand up to him, strong in faith and in the knowledge that your brothers all over the world are suffering the same things. You will only have to suffer only for a little while: the God of all grace who called you to eternal glory in Christ will see that all is well again: He will confirm, strengthen and support you. His power lasts for ever and ever. Amen.” [1Peter 5: 8-11]

“Console yourself with the Lord’s promise to repay ‘twice over with blessing’ for all we have suffered.” [Zechariah 9:12]

“Nothing can become between us and the love of Christ, even if we are worried or troubled, or being persecuted, or lacking food or clothes, or being threatened or even attacked. These are the trials through which we triumph, by the power of Him who loved us.” [Romans 8:35-37]

Whatever scriptures, you still have to live through it, and I pray God somehow brings some good out of this, somehow… I ask St Anthony and Mother Mary to help you.
Take care of yourself, Trishie

Hi j,
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I will be praying for you. I know how hard it is to lose all those things and have to call in on each credit card.
Yes, losing your grandpa’s dog tag is especially heart breaking. Many times in these types of robberies, the police will recover the wallet (minus the cash & credit cards).
Just remember, your grandpa left something much more important for you than a dog tag. He left his memory. He is watching over you from heaven and praying for you through all of this.
Pam
