How does one reply when a secularist, in a discussion on morals, tells you to “stop following those outdated morals you were spoon fed as a child”? Whenever I read about someone saying that it really annoys me.

I usually point out that I hear that same mantra from all the anti-theists I talk to and ask them if they have anything original to say.

Really - their repetition of that statement is itself quite sheep-like. At least in our belief system, we’re supposed to be sheep for the shepherd.

Baa!

“They’ll only be outdated until one second after you take your last breath”. 2Cor5:10.

XD

I gently point out that Truth is never outdated, and regardless of the number of people who accept it, remains Truth. People can start thinking 2+2 = 5 all they want, it will remain 4.

“Stop following those discredited/sophist liberals who spoon feed you your brain every day” 👍

The argument of “outdated” or “archaic” is a fallacy of argument. Shameless plug: I did a blog post last December on false mantras intended to silence the Church and that was false mantra #2. Truth is not dependent on the time period in which it is spoken. :o Should we knock it off driving around on wheels because those outdated cavemen invented them.

I learned a song when I was little and it went something like this:

I don’t want to be a goat…nope
I don’t want to be a goat…nope
I just want to be a sheep…baaaa
I just want to be a sheep…baaaa

I don’t wanna be a Pharisee
I don’t wanna be a Pharisee
'Cause they’re not fair you see
I don’t wanna be a Pharisee
I just want to be a sheep…baaaa

It continues but I can’t remember the rest of it.
When people tell me not to be a sheep, I think of this little song. lol. I usually tell them, “I don’t want to be a goat, nope” 😛

Christians are supposed to impact the world with the love of Christ.

They are not supposed to conform to the world’s wrong choices. (Our chaos comes from that.)

The more and the longer that we seek answers from God, the more He answers our questions, and the less seriously we take the challenges. Cowards simply don’t want the answers to begin with or they would’ve outgrown the notion by now that our faith is a matter of childhood conditioning.

I’m still waiting for someone to show me where it says in the Bible or Church doctrine that Jesus said “do this until the ‘modern year of ____’” or “at some point the people will know more than this soon to be outdated God, but until then listen to Me” … because I am having a really hard time finding that.

🙂 Very good.

Contrary to popular opinion, sheep do NOT follow blindly, nor are they stupid. It can take a lot of time to build trust, and they will only follow someone they trust. I raise sheep and I know this. They not only know the voice and mannerisms but also very clearly recognize the FACE of their shepherd, and prefer a smiling over an angry face. (This has been proven through extensive research.)

Remember when Jesus said that His sheep know His voice and follow him, but a stranger they will not hear?

Yeah, those outdated morals which say that I can’t have sex with your thirteen year old daughter and that it is wrong to take a sledge hammer to the hood of your Corvette because you wouldn’t let me change lanes the other day…

Hmm… it’s funny how 90 percent of atheists I have ever met happen to agree on absolutely every issue, including the controversial issues like abortion… and every time I try to discuss these with them, it’s the same old tired cop-outs. sounds an awful lot like group think to me.

Not to mention that many of them eagerly soak up anti-religious/anti-christian propaganda even when they are based on very poor research and junk science (i.e. zeitgeist). This certainly is groupthink.

Can you hear the tinge of evil in that sentence? It’s not that he/she disagrees with your morals on a reasonable basis, there is a real hatred and aversion to it.

A lot of times we are not dealing with a rational debate. We ware dealing with an emotional and deep seated aversion. The reason our debates go into nonsense is not because there isn’t rational evidence of God, but rather because all evidence gets reduced to extreme, hypocritical, and unreasonable levels of unknowing for the purpose of denial. When the universe runs out of room to deny God then they create the “multiverse”. The debate becomes an infinite regress of knowing. When the multiverse runs out they will create a multiple multiverse.

You have to find out if your secularist is rational, or emotional. If they are emotional don’t engage with rationality. Deal with the emotion first. When the emotion is gone and they get to a place where they can be rational then you can start to reason them.

Consider their analogy. Don’t we spoon-feed our children the best, healthiest food we can? Don’t we spoon-feed them healthy food until they can eat healthy food on their own? The secularist reply is like saying “stop eating healthy food”, and that’s actually a good analogy for modern “morals” - they’re fun, like candy, but very unhealthy for body and mind and soul. I’d rather have the healthy, “outdated” food/morals any day.

So much for being “free thinkers.” :rotfl:

But, I’ve noticed this liberal-atheist group think mainly lives among common atheist Joe Six Pack and atheist Plain Jane.

More well known atheists, the non commoners, tend to have more unique view points. A good juxtaposition of this is Slavoj Zizek and Christopher Hitchens.

It is pretty damn sad, since these are the self-proclaimed “logicians,” especially believing the discredited propaganda of Zeitgeist.

Boy does that film give me indigestion!
