Sexual orientation is not a choice.
Neither is cancer. Does God give people cancer?Sexual orientation is not a choice.
But they both come with struggles. Most things in life come with struggles and when you look at life in the eternal sense, rather than the now sense, I think what God is interested in seeing is how we deal with these struggles. I’ve never seen anyone, ever, ask “why doesn’t God want single persons to be happy?” Yet there are a lot of the same struggles involved with being single.Sexual orientation isn’t a disease, either.
So are you suggesting that “some forms of” homosexuality have been proven to be genetic? But wait, we aren’t even talking about being gay, we’re talking about sinning or not sinning, according to the Catholic Church and this is a Catholic website. Some forms of cancer have been proven to be genetic.
The OP did ask, “Did God make me gay???”, so it seems that we are also talking about being gay and whether God makes some of us that way.But wait, we aren’t even talking about being gay, we’re talking about sinning or not sinning, according to the Catholic Church and this is a Catholic website.
I’ve never said that being gay is a choice. Sin is a choice, just as sin is a choice for single persons also… But I’m not going to believe, either, that God makes people gay, any more than I would believe He gives people life threatening diseases, or any other difficult struggles in life. I don’t know what causes people to be gay, and I’m pretty sure that no one else knows positively, either. I think that the original poster was asking about temptations. We all have temptations, many are very strong temptations, but we have to make decisions on whether or not to act on them. You are exactly right that it’s not a sin to be gay.If your talking about sinning or not, I have no problem with that statement. But, if you’re saying same sex attraction is a choice, then I’m living proof that it’s not. I am not attracted to women and never have been in spite of being able to recognize them as beautiful. My “choice” is whether to commit homosexual acts, which I choose not to. It is not a sin to be gay, only to act on it.
Already responded to that. The OP did ask, “Did God make me gay???”, so it seems that we are also talking about being gay and whether God makes some of us that way.
So are you suggesting that God does make some people gay to see how they respond, kind of like an experiment?Thorolfr:![]()

Where did you get that from anything I’ve said? The answer is no, God does not make people gay, this isn’t an adventure of His. He does (I believe) watch how we handle the struggles we all have in our lives. That’s my opinion, which comes from being a parent. So are you suggesting that God does make some people gay to see how they respond, kind of like an experiment?
