Roaming the land as a bandit and leader of bandits, after one robbery he hid from local authorities in a colony of monks. Living with them, he repented, and joined them, becoming holy after much struggling with himself, as this account of his life recalls. Now, he is remembered as one of the Desert Fathers of the Fourth Century, of monks of the Egyptian desert remarkable for their Christian wisdom, wisdom the generations since then have much esteemed.
