Storing the Eucharist at home

True, but that’s realy “consuming” not “communing.” That might sound a bit too technical at first but it is an essential distinction. I didn’t think about that one until you mentioned it.

I’ve also never given any thought to Communion being distributed at the same time in a home as it’s being done on the TV mass. Not quite sure what I think about that part. My jury’s still out on that one.

When I bring our Lord to a homebound person I will usually try and follow the full Rite with all the prayers and readings. I never thought about it, and will have to think a bit more on it. But if Mass was available on TV/cable at the time or near the time I usually visited. It seems to me to make sense for them to watch the Mass and “participate” along with the TV Mass, then receive Holy Commmunion at the appropriate time.

My first reaction is to say “yes, this would be the perfect time” but then as I think more on it, I wonder if doing that would not somehow “validate” the TV Mass and reinforce the false impression that it might be a substitute? Then I think again and say, well, at least they get to hear everything and (at least verbally) participate along with what’s happening on TV so what better timing than when everyone on TV is receiving Communion? I realy don’t know how I feel on this one.

And PS–the distinction between “consuming” and “communing” was for conversation–I know you know the difference!

There is one exception that does come to mind. An EMHC who find themselves with extra Hosts and cannot return them to the tabernacle at the Church, is to consume them.

Certainly, but consuming unreceived hosts is very different from self-communication, which is always forbidden to the laity.

Yes, I also wonder about the fact that I know they have no Mass obligation, but as you say they could get confused and it could perpetuate the false idea. It bothers me when Extraordinary Ministers stop in “visit”, offer Communion, “The Body of Christ” and leave, when the people are capable of saying the prayers and listening to the readings. Yes, it takes extra time!
