A person who will not cite the places she is accusing has no impact on me.

I went to a CINO college. However, there was still plenty of Catholic influence. My friend, a campus minister, runs a Newman center with several other ministers. Their RCIA classes run near 100 and they have dozens accepted into the Church.

Given the issues at many of the Catholic Colleges today, I think this mom is hand-wringing over the fact that her children were allowed to make choices of their own. Too many parents think that sending their kid to a Catholic college means that they will be subject to the same thought poliece that they enforced through their child’s youth.

Well, the author of the piece is the one that left them out. That doesn’t really change the story. There are many Catholic schools that are in name only, it is not a myth. It is pretty common, especially at the more well known colleges.

Where I went to Catholic college, there was a daily presence of Catholicsm. There probably still is, though I don’t really know. 30 years later, at a well known and respected Catholic college my daughter attended, not so much. In fact, I sometimes forgot it was a Catholic college.

I know for a fact (because that’s my husband’s professional circle) that any large Catholic college has a lot of good, serious Catholics on it, and that you can find those people if you want to.

I can’t say the same for small Catholic colleges, but I know that that is true of Georgetown, CUA and Notre Dame.

There were serious Catholics at my Catholic college, but they were far in the minority. Seemed like most everyone else was CINO (either Catholic or other Christian). I had fallen away from my faith by that time and the school environment was not helpful in that regard.
