"Storytelling"?

I am almost afraid to ask, but does anyone have any idea what this means in reference to Mass?

I’m trying to find a Mass where we will be going on our spring break vacation (we’re going camping) and the parish I found listed its Mass times as Saturday 5:30 p.m. (with Storytelling) and Sunday 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. (with Storytelling).

Anyone heard of this? What is it?

:confused: Never heard of it so, I am waiting with “baited breath” to hear what those in the know have to say about it :).

I dunno! Someone tell me what it means and then we’ll all know!

I should note that none of the Masses were listed as Children’s Masses or Liturgies. If that helps. 🤷 And this is St. Vincent de Paul parish in Silver City, New Mexico. If that helps.
 
I, too, would be interested in a first hand account of a “story-telling” Mass.

I am going to go out on a limb on this one. Inasmuch as I think that this “storytelling” business sounds rather bizarre, could it be that this is what this parish is calling its nursery?

I know that some parishes offer childcare during certain Masses and have that indicated in their bulletin. Maybe, and this is a very wild, but somewhat quasi-probable guess, this “storytelling” term might be the parish’s odd way of saying that childcare is provided during these Masses.

Just a thought.

🤷 Awwww. You just ruined my whole Liturgical Abuse, tree-hugger, wishy-washy conspiricy theory.
 
I don’t think it’s a reference to child care (so cheer up, idrum! 😃 ) because this is on the diocese’s website and it is the only parish listed “with storytelling” after the Mass times. I assume all the other parishes (or at least the majority of them) would provide childcare, and nothing was listed for any other parish.

I wondered if maybe it had something to do with Native American culture (please note I know very little about Native American culture) and the tradition of having “storytellers”, but this parish isn’t on a reservation and the ones that ARE on reservations do not list “storytelling”.

Maybe I’ll just call and find out (or would that be too sensible? 😛 )

My guess: from my own experiences I happened upon a Mass at another parish which said there would be story telling. In this instance, it was really a children’s mass where the children were asked to come to the foot of the sanctuary and sit on the floor during the homily. The priest gave a homily directly related to the Gospel reading, but it was directed more toward the children in terms of understanding. The storytelling was just simply he gave a Catholic children’s Bible version of the story. I hope this helps and is understandable. I’m tired while typing. 🙂

You know, that WAS my original impression until I saw it listed for EVERY weekend Mass (Saturday vigil and both Sunday Masses). They don’t normally do a children’s liturgy at EVERY Mass, do they? (“They”, you know who “THEY” are, right idrum?)

Waiting on a reply to my e-mail, then we can ALL be informed!

By what you typed, I don’t believe it is at every mass.
Saturday 5:30 p.m. (with Storytelling) and Sunday 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. (with Storytelling). Just my take. Do let us know what you find out. 🙂
