Strange Procession

Hi,
My diocese is celebrating its 175th aniversary. In the Mass, they plan on having a procession of “fruits of the sea,” “fruits of the land,” and a bunch of soil that will be present to the celebrants and placed around the altar. This sounds a little… odd to me. Does anyone know it things like this are allowed?

I don’t know about the procession, but usually at harvest time, we have baskets of fruits and vegetables on the floor in front of the altar. We live in a farming area in nw.Ohio. But the precession part does sound a bit new age-ish.
