Does your subconscious (that which you believe but are not currently thinking) have anything to do with who you are?
I think it’s part of the experience of who we are. It 's certainly sometimes in better touch with how we feel about things. Problem is that it doesn 't always use the same language and symbols as we have learned to use. It seems often enough to have it 's own and can be rather complex. Dreaming about sleeping with other women may or may not be about a desire to sleep with other women. It could be unrelated to sex.

Unconscious does not = (aka) subconscious.
What you gave is not a definition of the subconscious.

What you gave is not a definition of the subconscious.
From wikipedia on the Subconscious:
The subconscious is commonly encountered as a replacement for the unconscious mind. …] Laypersons commonly assume that the subconscious is a psychoanalytic term; it isn’t. Sigmund Freud explicitly argues:
ā€œ ā€œIf someone talks of subconsciousness, I cannot tell whether he means the term topographically – to indicate something lying in the mind beneath consciousness – or qualitatively – to indicate another consciousness, a subterranean one, as it were. He is probably not clear about any of it. The only trustworthy antithesis is between conscious and unconscious.ā€[4].
Subconscious is more properly known as the unconscious mind.

One can say that a rock is unconscious. However,it would be absurd to claim that it has a subconscious.

:ouch: I think what is confusing you is that words can have multiple meanings.
Oxford English Dictionary:
Definition of unconscious
adjective
1not awake and aware of and responding to one’s environment:
[as complement]:
the boy was beaten unconscious
2done or existing without one realizing:
he would wipe back his hair in an unconscious gesture of annoyance
(unconscious of) unaware of:
ā€˜What is it?’ he said again, unconscious of the repetition
noun
(the unconscious)
the part of the mind which is inaccessible to the conscious mind but which affects behaviour and emotions:
horrific apparitions surfaced out of the recesses of his unconscious

Consciousness requires a mental faculty to process self-awareness, so I would argue that it is absurd to say that a rock is unconscious in the first place. 🤷

I have come to suspect that dreams in which we commit sins that we would never commit, or even be tempted to commit, from which we can awake demoralized or disgusted can sometimes come from fallen angels. It’s not something one can prove, but I am rather certain most people can recall dreams which disgusted them in which they did something they find revolting down to their core. I don’t for a minute believe that people have suppressed persons or desires that those people find revolting. Weird sexual dreams are one thing, but dreams explicitly involving sin, with no obvious connection to your psyche, don’t really make any sense to me as something which comes from your unconscious. And what about dreams in which one is literally tormented by dark spirits?

To provide some context and an example, I am a divorced Catholic. My ex-wife constantly practiced occult things in our home. For the entire time I was married to her, and we slept in the same bed, I would wake up to what I had long believed were hypnogogic hallucinations of shadows and light. I would get night terrors and so forth. Now that I am alone, I don’t get those any longer. But I do very occasionally get these ā€œattackā€ dreams where it’s like I am assaulted with revolting sins. The last time this happened, I knew what was happening the whole time but I couldn’t wake from it. But it was as if the thing got so angry, the dream disappeared, and then I was just falling in a void. That day, I was reading about angels (specifically St. Thomas’ chapters in the Suma) and thinking about guardian angels and if they really exist. Now, I was falling in darkness, lying flat, and looking up. I just said ā€œAngel?ā€, and then it was like there were these invisible hands that came beneath me and pulled me back up to the bed. I heard in my mind "Oh " where my name was used, in a loving way. What was weird is that I was laying on my stomach, and when I was pulled back to my body (in the dream), my entire orientation reversed as I awoke.

That’s just one example of a type of dream I am sure lots of people experience which I am not convinced really come from our unconsciousness at all.

Sexual dreams, though, I wouldn’t think much about since we do have all sorts of crazy sexual desires we don’t act on. The person who dreamed he cheated on his wife may have subconsciously felt attracted to some woman he encountered at work or in public, rightly rejected that temptation without much thought, but his unconscious didn’t dismiss it.

However, if a person struggles with chastity, and if fallen angels can use wicked dreams to attempt to influence us, then I would not be at all surprised if they inflict them upon us to build our temptation in the same sense that guerrilla marketers can slowly accumulate suggestions for a person to purchase some product.

I heard a dream expert once say that if people knew what their dreams meant, they would never divulge them in public. I don’t know if it’s true, but you won’t catch me telling anyone my dreams. No offense meant, OP.

ā€œunā€ in english is like ā€œnotā€. So if we say that something is unconscious we are saying that it is not conscious. Of course we can say that a rock is not conscious. However, we cannot say that it is subconscious. Not only does that sound absurd,it is also not true. It has no memorys etc that it is aware of or UNAWARE of. Unless,of course, if you deny the existence of qualia, which means that you are an eliminative materialist ( one that believes that states of mind =brain states.) We can debate the merits of eliminative materialism. However, I believe that position invalidates itself.
The subconscious is unconscious. However, something unconscious is not necessarily subconscious. Similarly, all dogs are mammals. However, not all mammals are dogs.

I talked to local Nun’s about this subject not so long ago. This actually forms part of confession, although its subconscious because you are dreaming it will still come under Sin. This is nothing to worry about just go to confession and admit and repent your sins šŸ™‚ hope this helps.
From the overflow of the heart…the mouth speaks. From the overflow of life…dreams speak.

Our words can be sinful. In a flood of words you won’t escape sin. However, DREAMS are seperate from the active will. To claim that dreams are sinful is like claiming farts are voluntary.

You seem to still have the same difficulty understanding the distinction between the adjective ā€œunconsciousā€ and the noun ā€œunconscious mindā€.

I think we could safely say that rocks are non-sentient. If we could define exactly what consciousness is, where it resides, then we might be able to determine of a rock is conscious or not.

Rocks don’t appear to be sentient. I’ve thrown a few in my time and I never heard one say, ā€œOuch!ā€ Then again, they don’t have vocal chords. I think I’ll apply to NIH for a government grant to study sentience in rocks. Probably couldn’t get more than a few million in this present sequester environment.

Don’t sell yourself short. Relate your research somehow to gun or birth control and you should be fine.

So you are saying that if I say ā€œthat rock is subconsciousā€ = saying " that rock is unconscious "?

I dont think anyone can say with certainty whether or not rocks are concious. If they are, then perhaps their consciousness is akin to our subconscious. Perhaps we don’t even have our own consciousness. Maybe all consciousness is shared and.only sentience is personal or individual, in which case my consciousness and a rock 's consciousness are ultimately the same. The difference would then simply be that i am sentient.

Sorry for the typos - not used to ipads yet. I like real keyboards.
