Strange religious beliefs I encountered today....

I’ve heard of the belief about the scanning thing too. When I worked at Chuck E. Cheese there were occasionally people who refused the black light ink number stamp on their arm “because it was the mark of the beast.” I tried to convince one lady tht it was not it was a nice number 3 that was only the same as her granddaughter so we wouldn’t let her kid get kidnapped by anyone without a 3 but she got mad so I gave her a #3 sticker instead…

The company should be accommodating, no matter how weird they think the belief is.

If she doesn’t quit, she should be fired anyway just for being so stupid. 👍

The director or the employee?
The employee, since her crazy beliefs are actually interfering with the company’s legitimate progress.

Although it’s true the boss does sound pretty dumb as well.

And the thing is, we don’t actually STORE the finger prints. Our system converts the finger print into a unique mathmatical code and that is what is stored. If the database was accessed, the mathmatical codes would show up, not the finger prints. It’s all complicated and a big ole mess. I’m curious to see if the employee shows up tomorrow!

My place has issued passwords to people that don’t want to use their finger, so they just clock in with a password and employee number. Also this is something people don’t seem to like to touch the same finger scanner that others touch, even though antibacterial wipes are next to the clock. The other thing is that the clock at times does not trust my finger, causing me to press several buttons over and over till it trusts me finger…

I would hate to see the day when people get RFID chips implanted under their skin.

If she’s in the US, then I’m pretty sure that she’s already going to hell for having a social security number.

I’m not sure I’d want to clock in using a fingerprint identification either. Not because of religiouse beliefs, but because of privacy concerns. Fingerprints are a unique identifiable marker, I’m not sure I’m willing to just give it up to my company like that.
Then don’t touch anything while you are at work. If they wanted it, they already have it.

A strange thing happened today and I need to ask you all if you’ve ever heard of this: I work in Human Resources and my company is implementing a new timeclock system. With this system, the employee has to both swipe a badge and scan their finger in order to clock in and out. One of our employees got into a fight with the HR Director today because she refuses to scan her finger. She said it’s against her religion because it will damn her soul to Hell. Apparently, it’s similar to the Mark of the Beast or something. Anyone know of this belief? She and my boss were fighting because the employee follows traditions of her family and my boss said she only draws from the Bible as it has been revealed to her in her heart through the Holy Spirit…traditions are not of God.

Also, my boss was talking about how she believes, since Jesus died for our sins, that no matter WHAT you do on this earth, you are guaranteed a place in Heaven. She said murderers, rapists, etc. are all there with Jesus because of what He did for us. Because I want to keep my job, I left to go to lunch without launching into how nutty they both sounded. When I got back, I found out that the employee is probably going to quit her job so she doesn’t go straight to Hell for clocking in with a finger scan.
 😊 :o 😉 😃

Well, I have heard of this before. I frequent YouTube a lot, and one insane Fundy had a vid up saying Prince Charles is the Anti Christ because he had a chip in Prince WIlliam and Harry’s hand! But wait- how can murderers like HItler be in Heaven, and how can she go to Hell for SCANNING HER FINGER?

It’s two different people.

The first person thinks she will be counted among the apostles of the Anti-christ if she gets her finger scanned (thus causing her to go to Hell). Which is really sad, because it shows that she doesn’t realize that God sees our hearts and knows our intentions.

The second person is the one who thinks that everyone goes to Heaven. Which is completely beside the point, since if someone’s religious belief, no matter how sad it may be, causes us to not want to do something at work, then some way of accomodating the person should be found. It is not the employer’s job to catechize the staff, unless it’s a Church and the employer is the pastor of the Church.

That is sad about the first person. Oh well, it still gave me a good laugh.

I think it important to accomodate a person’s religous beliefs. Simply whether we agree with the person’s religious beliefs or find them absurd doesn’t seem good grounds for doing otherwise. We all have beliefs others will find repellant. For example, in Moslem countries belief in the trinity can seem repellent to people. But to act against people on the job on such grounds seems out of line.

Anybody who thinks fingerprint scans are a likely candidate for the “mark of the beast” should be fired for something along the lines of “inordinately histrionic expressions of paranoid stupidity.”

Seriously, how can your fingerprint be the mark of the beast? Because it’s a personally identifying characteristic? Why isn’t your birth certificate or SSN the mark of the beast? How about telecommunications devices or even just money in general? This lady would probably completely freak out if she knew what Google Analytics did.

Why in the world would somebody single out fingerprints scans. It sounds to me like this person is eagerly awaiting the End Times and perhaps she has jumped the gun just a little bit. I think she should be drug tested.

(well okay, she doesn’t need to be drug tested, that was just a little hyperbole for your amusement 😉 )

People’s beliefs can seem very curious to others. No question about it. And computers and IT seem to be featuring more and more as issues. I recall reading recently (can’t recall where - I was in a medical waiting room at the time) that there is one school of thought that a computer can become possessed. I mean possessed by an evil entity.

Has anyone heard anything of this nature before? Me, I think it’s a machine. OTOH, I have (jokingly) declared, in the light of the considerable problems my computer has been causing of late, that it probably needs to be exorcised.

Any thoughts on this?

I believe that computers are very sensitive, and can react to people’s moods. They seem to malfunction more frequently around people who have strong emotions. I think this has to do with the sensitivity of the tiny component parts, though - I don’t think they have souls or that they can become possessed.

I think they could appear to become possessed, though, because emotions generate a small amount of electricity, and the extra electricity probably fouls something up in the computer, at some level.

Here is an update on the situation:
The employee came to work yesterday and had her finger scanned without a problem. She has acted rather depressed but hasn’t protested or complained…so I’m not sure what changed her mind.

someone else said that the finger print is individual perhaps thats what she thought.

As for the mark in general regardless of if one thinks its going to happen or not. Think of this it will happen if its going to and there is nothing anyone can do about it. It would likely be something already in place like bar codes or whatever, but technology moves quick.

One things for sure if it is the mark of the beast you will know what it is you are getting, it wont be a mistake or something someone forced on you. If you were to have this mark, it would be a conscious choice on your part.

so while people speculate no one would really know what the final thing would be, so theres no sense in worrying until someone says deny God and take this current ruler as your lord. Then your in a decision of epic porportions. Other than that security will continue to be increased as we all go along in life.

Good Morning - Maybe you could cheer this lady up by pointing out scripture that says that those who go with the beast have to have the mark on hand or head and that it is PUT there vice something she already has on her finger (Rev 13).

Love - Asaph

I know I may be a day late and a dollar short, but I wanted to help you to understand what may be going through this lady’s mind about scanning and fingerprints.

Someone sent me a powerpoint presentation – I’m sure you can find it on YouTube – about how these chips are the devil’s mark, and I was able to find more info on Snopes, debunking this urban legend. (God bless Snopes.)

Here’s a website that is preety reactionaly and not passing on good information about RFID chips are considered to be the “Mark of the Beast.” These radio frequency chips are small enough to go under the ridge of a fingerprint.

In my estmiation, this person is fearful about incorrect information, like someone who believe Chick Tracts!

Interesting dicussion.

I closed a bank account rather than have to put a thumb print on a check. Of course, the consequences of doing that as opposed to quiting or getting fired are much less. Not sure what I would do if was forced to thumb print regulary for work.

RFID chip implant no way, not that I think that is presently likely.
